Children go missing quite regularly. This story is big here now.

What sets Madeleine apart is her age and the absence of any obvious abductor such as a natural parent.

Who are we to tell, given all we have is the telly and cr$p in the press to go on. But as a parent (and someone who has stayed in the same palce in Portugal - same resort, probably 50 yards from their place) I think the whole thing stinks.

Me? I'd have bolted home immediately for some family support. What do they think they can do there? Are they Holmes and fuXXing Watson? Audience with the Pope? Do me a favour. The mother did it.
