Only just heard about this, and I'm not sure I've seen it mentioned on here yet...

"We work in close partnership with Brighton to respond to reports of homophobic behaviour," PC Balkham said.
"Reports of homophobic abuse, racist abuse, and public order offences will be tackled and Sussex Police will seek prosecutions where reports are made to us.
"The force is investigating two reports of homophobic abuse made at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, 12 August."
From a quick search, one of the incidents involved homophobic chants at Billy Gilmour.

Personally don’t think anyone singing this is thinking he is being homophobic. Doubt they are suggesting he is gay or having a go at him. It’s just banter for him previously being at Chelsea isn’t it. As others have said I’d take more affront at being called a paedo which is an allegation of illegality which isn’t correct. Much much worse.

Don't think anyone singing about Lukaku's 24-inch knob is meaning to be racist when they sing it, it's "just banter"
but nevertheless it drives stereotypes which are harmful.

Same here. The "rent boy" song may be harmless in your eyes but if it's originally come from homophobic roots then good on the police for investigating

Never really understood why rent boy was deemed homophobic - is it any worse than calling someone a whore ?
The CPS think it is so best go with that. Bet there was far worse from Luton around the ground etc than Chelsea rentboy regardless.

Remember Ronald’s video with the 4-1 demolition of Chelsea and a group of their ‘fans’ singing ‘Brighton gay boys’ to that tune (they must have been waiting to get it out and away from them!) right in front of coppers and not even a word. Inconsistent.

Newmarket.
Chelsea rent boy and whore are equally as repugnant.
Because the Govt has decreed that one is a hate crime shouldn't lessen the indecency and condemnation of the other.
But because of this legislation, it appears it does.
What kind of person would use either.

Interesting one again. Seemingly it's ok to make a derogatory chant about a player being a paedo but not a rent boy !

At least be consistent.
Assuming the recipient isn’t gay then the point isn’t really about how offensive it is to the recipient. What is relevant is that homophobic chants in a football ground make football grounds feel like an unwelcome place for gay people. I don’t think anyone is concerned if football grounds are unwelcome places for paedophiles.

This is nothing new though. I often hear awful homophobic stuff from the away support on the train. “Does your boyfriend know you’re here” is a regular.

Very well said.

Last season I went to Lewes for a 2nd round FA Cup qualifying game v Three Bridges. I was with my mate … who is gay … who I got to know from going to Brighton away games. We were stood watching the game and a couple of goons to our right - who had young kids with them - were making homophobic remarks. Not loud … it was a conversation I overheard rather than them shouting out. I said nothing as I’m not a confrontational person ( I walked away from my one and only possibly fight outside the school gates back in the 70’s set up by some school bullies) … and fortunately my gay mate didn’t hear them (I asked him after the game).

Making any form of racial or homophobic or indeed any form of insult or abuse is unacceptable … in my opinion. It says more about the person or persons making the comments than whoever it’s aimed at.

And your point is?

As I have said before. Anyone who says it’s just banter should be locked up. If they use the word bantz they should be exterminated.
