What type of midfielder is Moder? Who would he be in competition with? Bissouma/Alzate/Lallana/Molumby or Gross/Ally Mac?

I only watched the last 20 minutes but he looks more defensive/box-to-box than no 10. I was quite impressed particularly defensively as he made a couple of important blocks. The young right back looked pretty good too.

Reminded me a bit of a taller Alzate, although probably not directly comparable to any of the above as he looked a bit more of a deep lying playmaker. Nice quick forward thinking passes and good positioning, played with a maturity too.

Definitely looks box to box to me. Doesn't mind a shot from distance either got the vibe of a very young Steven Gerrard.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Sounds like just the sort of player we like/need.

Are both our Polish players teams still in the Europa League competition?
And if either side get knocked out prior to the Jan transfer window, do we have a release clause (on either player) to allow them to play for us from Jan onwards?

We have a release clause for Moder only

I've read last few pages so can refer to some unanswered questions:

- the news about Bielsa reached Poland, even that in Leeds the city has named a street after him. We've got Mateusz Klich there as a playmaker so "Bielsa" materials aren't rare. Unless there was some hidden meaning to that comment I can't reckon :smokin:

- Moder's position is 8, sometimes even 6. He's best at interception, yet as you observed, box-to-box player is quite an elegant description. He's got fantastic shot from distance and I mean it - after his debut in Ektraklasa he got like 3 goals per 4-5 shots from outside the box. It was quite smashing even in our strange league. Do not consider his as 10, he was tried there but it's not his pair of shoes, you'll have better fitted guys there

- as far as Italy game is concerned Moder was actually the best there in Polish team (alongside Bereszyński and Walukiewicz - another gem, but already in Cagliari since 19/20. Not for very long anymore we think). Moder played alongside very experienced Grzegorz Krychowiak (2 cups Europa League with Sevilla, also selected in the Euro16 UEFA Team and I think 15/16 La Liga Team of the Year, later on 2 years of failure in PSG, now Locomotiv Moscow, also chosen to the Team of the Year 19/20 of Prijemier Liga). And Krychowiak looked like slow, bulky Moder's apprentice (who actually played for the second time in our National team). Amazing

- No, you won't see both boys in the Europa League. Karbownik's Legia Warsaw was knocked out in the 4th round of preliminaries (and as a club is undergoing serious problems right now, hence Brighton had to pay only 4-5,5M for him. Just 2-3 months earlier there was really close to seal the deal with Napoli for 8-8,5M. You just patiently and succussfully played your cards there and won).

Cheers, it's really nice you follow the boys

Can see why we were tempted to bring him into the squad straight away. Looks like a potentially very good and clever signing, looking forward to January.

I know we've suddenly focussed on both Moder and Karbonowik, but given the exposure, particularly in the case of Moder, during this round of international matches, it feels like they would have been much harder, and costlier to buy, even now, onlt a week or so later (if it were possible)

To get a draw against Italy is no mean feat . The standard of football these 2 are playing is far higher standard than PL 2 for our under 21’s . I suspect both are ready or very close to being good enough to be included in our PL squad . Two or three more decent games in the europa league / internationals and they value will rise .

Can't find it now but I read that he's "ambidextrous" apparently.

Also, the good thing about signing lads from Poland is they definitely can "do it on a cold rainy day in Stoke". :lolol:

Useful if you're a goalkeeper. Did you mean ambipedal?

I got the word from a google translate of a Polish article or tweet (lol).
And later read that "usually, your feet (and eyes) follow the same dominance as your hands. So if your hands are both dominant, your feet will both be dominant, too".
Hence I just figured perhaps he is indeed ambidextrous.

Ambipedal is better in this context though, you are right (or left...baddum tish).

Regardless Moder and Karbownik look like great acquisitions. I hope they both start against Bosnia & Herzegovina (and Trossard vs. Iceland).

I think Karbownik needs little more polishing. so a full season in Poland will do him no harm. I believe he is only 19 so plenty of time

Standing in the way of control
Poland are on a good run - the way they're playing, particularly in the final third, is really developing.

The atmosphere in the ground tonight was very positive and a lot of that's to do with how the future looks because of the way the young players have performed over the last few matches.

I think Jerzy thought Bosnia would be a challenge tonight and it looked like they would be until the sending off. But Poland can potentially break down/outgun decent teams now.
