Points Required

I'm usually the statto, but can't get my head around the various permutations.

Can someone please explain whether we will make the play off's if we win on Saturday?

Who can knock us out the play off's if we get 4 points?

What needs to happen for us to claim 4th (3 wins not a GTY?)?

Any other possibilities we should be aware of?

If we take 4 points from the next 3 games that'll give us 70 points.

If Leicester* win all three of their remaining games they'll be on 73.
If Bolton and Forest* win all three of their remaining games they'll be on 72.

*Forest play Leicester on the final day, so only one of these teams can win all 3 games.

If we win 2 of the 3 games and finish on 72 points, there would have to be a relatively large swing in the goal difference for us to drop out even if Bolton and/or Forest finish level on points

In theory we NEED 7 points to secure a place, but there is still 2 games that will lower that (Palace vs Leicester and Forest vs Leicester) and we still have the 2nd best goal difference out of the contenders so that could be classed as half a point. For me, a win and a draw will be enough to creep in.

We can still be caught if we win Saturday.

Another thing I figured even if we lose against Blackpool and Leeds we go into the last day still with a chance of play offs regardless of what others do (until the last day)

But that isn't going to happen

70 will do it -- crying out for a poll

There is no scenario this Saturday that will 100% guarantee us a play off place.

However, if we win and Bolton AND Forest BOTH lose, we will have 69 points, and Bolton and Forests maximum tally will be 69, and with our GD, we will be about 99.99% there.

With only 3 games left it's certainly not inconceivable that a couple of teams will win them all, meaning we'll need to win 2 out of the 3. You'd think 4 points would be enough, but that's by no means certain.

70 will be enough, sop many other games with implications where teams around are going to lose points - fact.

but at the end of the day, win our games and nothing else matters

I think 69/70 points will be the total 6th place gets. Leicester also have to play palace and Watford. Boro are not out of it and they could do us a favour at the weekend against Bolton.

2 wins and a draw.

Beat Blackpool, draw with Leeds and beat Wolves.

7 points required as of now.

Beat Blackpool, and to quote Gus, 'then we see'.

Beat Blackpool and Leeds - think that should see us through. All depends on other results too.

Hopefully its all sealed before the last game as Wolves will most probably be fighting for survival which would make that a tricky game, they beat Hull last night too.

If you go on to BBC sport football championship predictor you can play around with the results anyway you wish to see what might happen. One of the worst is Wolves coming to us needing a win to stay up whilst we need something to make the play offs.If that happens I'll be wearing my brown trousers to the final game.

Do stattos not learn grammar? ... play off's ... ? It's a plural laddie - PLURALS DO NOT NEED APOSTROPHES. Or if you were writing it - plural's do not need apostrophe's.

It really isn't difficult.

The good thing is that everyone around us is playing teams that still need something to either stay up or get into the play offs.
Last day could be interesting

Forrest v Leicester both playing for play offs
Palace v Peterborough fighting for playoffs and to avoid relegation
Bolton v Blackburn again both will need something
And us, so last day could see a lot of changes in positions over the 90 mins.

Would be good for us to have at least 4 points in the bag before then.
