I lived there for four years and loved the place. Might be going down but see how the funds last.

I'd thoroughly recommend the Barbican for pubs, anything place with a naval vibe might be worth missing but the cider press and the distillery and pretty good. Also, on the other side of the Hoe there's a great place that does half price cocktails called the Waterfront.

Just round the corner from the train station on the way to the ground is the Pennycomequick pub which is a bit rough but I think most people go there.

Most of the clubs/pubs/bars in Plymouth are on Union Street I believe???

Stayed there a few seasons back, the Forte Post house was quite cheap, me and three mates stayed there £60 between us.

The best pre match pub is the big one at the bottom of the hill as you walk towards Home Park, don't know what it's called but it's near the railway viaduct.

Dancing wise Union Street is the place to be. There's a couple of large clubs which have opened up since I left, one called the Millenium and another called the Academy I think, this is just vage recollections of my last visit there. Trouble is everyone goes to Union St so there's often an interesting mix of marines, locals and students. Stick by the provost vans if you get scared!!! And down union st are the best chicken kebabs from Jimbo's.

Laugh as much as you like about the name.

I'll be going - staying with the father in law - cheap and lots of home cooked food !

For drinking the football ground guide recommends :

The Cherry Tree, which is a good 15-20 minute walk away from the ground: from the car park at the home end turn right and walk up the hill along the main road. At the large set of traffic lights at the top of the hill turn left and you can see the pub about 50 yards down on the right. Terry from Plymouth also recommends the Pennycomequick (great name!) if you are walking to the ground from the railway station. Dave Potham recommends the Britannia which is the closest pub to the ground and is a Wetherspoons outlet. However this pub is opposite the Embassy Club, best avoided by away fans'. Otherwise alcohol is available within the ground.

Plymouth guys are ok, but there is a core of nutters (unfortunately in every club there are), not a good idea to go out in union st with a brighton top though. :nono:

Better than the last time i went. Caged animals, all 54 of us in the away terrace (yes I counted), apparently it's a much improved ground.
