Anyone on here a plumber, or had a similar problem with their boiler?

Late last night, after having the boiler on for the majority of the day, a warning light (a triangle with the word 'bar' written underneath) came on. Now, I understand 'bar' is the unit which the water pressure is measured in, so I increased the water pressure a little (to around 1.5, which I read was about right), but no change. I've also tried turning the reset knob a few times, turning it off and on again, etc. I'm on a gas meter, which has plenty of credit. We had a similar problem last year, but it, without a better explanation, sorted itself out.

Anyone got any ideas?

Or, if you're a plumber, please PM your details, as if I can't get it sorted in the next day or two, I'll be looking to get one in to check it out.

Cheers.

Kind of same thing happened to me last year with my Combi boiler, was instructed by my mate who is in the trade to first shut the boiler off and let the thing cool down, then re-fill sealed water system to 1.5bar on pressure gauge while making sure to vent radiators and the boiler unit when filling up, then switch on power and press re-set button and job done.

The boiler worked again ok for me, he also said that water pressure shouldn't need filled up to often and if it does there must be a water leak on the heating system somewhere. Hope this helps.

What make and model is the boiler?? If as you say the 'bar' warning light is lit up it probably just needs repressurising. If not you may have a faulty low water pressure sensor, most boilers reset themselves when the correct pressure is put in. Let us know what sort of boiler too, I take it it's a combi with no tank, but is it a new condenser etc.

It is an old Ferroli combi boiler. I unfortunately don't know the model number.
It is no longer on their website, and I assume is discontinued.

I have refilled the water system by turning the flow valves, thus getting the pressure back up. But this didn't fix the problem. I haven't tried bleeding the radiators yet (need to get a radiator key first), but would be suprised if this is the problem, as the boiler is instantly in warning mode before even trying to power up and heat the radiators. But will give it a go.

I live in rented accommodation, so, going to have to get in touch with the landlord to get someone round. So shouldn't cost me anything. It's just a nightmare living without heated water until then.
