Seems fair to me.

I feel sorry for the fans, but it is a stupid and basic mistake. They gained 18 points with an ineligible player in the team so it is a fair punishment in my eyes.

Not much that can be said to be honest, he was ineligable so therefore they have been punished.

Feel big time for the fans, but rules have been broken and there isn't really much of a defence is there ?

Sven Gordon Eriksson has some encouraging comments:

3399.
"For England, for football and for Altrincham FC, this is a very bad thing! Disgraceful! I will try everything in my power and my relations with the FA to get your points back! Good luck Altrincham!"

If anything they should start a petition DEMANDING their secretary be sacked immediately!!

For every game the lad played the result should be awarded to the opposition and Altrincham should get fined. I think they got off quite lightly with only £1000 fine to be brutually honest.

If the club is not punished in this way, what is to stop others flouting the rules?

Sorry, but I won't signing.

I know it's an individual's error, most likely, but that's life and the supporters should vent their anger at those responsible for the stupid, basic error.

I see that they actually signed him from Accrington, made me wonder if he had played for them and whether they might also be docked points as the rule infringement related to when he played in Iceland, before moving to Lancashire,

Accrington ARE going to be punished and have said they'll accept whatever it is - mind you that was before the Alty penalty was announced. He never played for their 1st team BTW, just the reserves, so their penalty should be lighter.

On another point like other posters I don't have any sympathy with Altrincham per se, rules are rules, but it does seem a bit much that you can go bust owing thousands (and perhaps wrecking a few other lives by your insolvency as well) and get fined a mere 10 points, whereas a few bits of paper aren't filed properly and you lose 18.

OK, they will probably just get a fine in that case. I guess the severity will depend on whether they knew about the irregularity before passing him off on Altrincham.

Apparently they got him from Crewe and just sort of assumed that a League club would have checked up on things like international clearance.

So Crew lose points for an illegible player, Derby lose points for going into Administration, and we stay up .........

Makes you wonder about some of the players we signed in the past, during the reign of Barry Lloyd, I wonder how many shady deals were done there?
