Dean Cox - had one too many tantrums last season, needs to put that behind him and focus on his game
Adam Virgo - done bugger all since he left us so needs to prove he can play again at this level and make a difference
Michel Kuipers - Getting on now and needs to show he is worthy of the No1 Shirt

any others?

erm I think you will find the list is never ending.

Robinson - probably with the most to prove.

Mcleod - Needs to prove that he is a quality winger and not lazy as a lot of colchester fans were saying

Lynch - Meant to be the next big thing but hasn't yet fully progressed as much as fans hoped.

Thomson - Needs to prove that he can be the driving force of the midfield and that we can cope without buying another central midfielder.

All of them! They need to step up to the mark and make this season count!

FDM doesn't need to prove himself at all, he's been consistent and faithful to the club - if he left tomorrow he's earned "legend" status.
Virgo is like a newly signed player from anywhere - should be given a chance, not pressure. He's been away long enough to have been practically forgotten!
Cox is still one of our better players, and imo has also been consistent. When he was replaced last season and said "I should be on, I'm better than ......." he actually had a point. Not one that the players or DW liked to hear maybe, but a valid one at that time, all the same.

Absolutely agree. Every player has to step up and prove that they have got it or still got it. Anyone who just relies on past glories can ship out.

Harsh, but the nature of professional sport.

As it's a new season everyone really starts with a clean slate and they have to start as they mean to go on.
From last season I would say that Robinson has most to prove - he's been the "great white hope" for a good few seasons now and still has not proved himself IMO.
Cox needs consistency - he starts off the season well but then fades. Perhaps he can learn a bit off Adams/McCleod.

Right here, right now
Elphick - needs to prove he is not a one season wonder

Mayo/Hart - need to prove Adams was right to give them another year

Sullivan - needs to prove he is a worthy backup to FDM

Robinson - needs to prove that he can cut it at this level - he hasn't so far apart from in flashes

Gatting/Dixon - do they have the potential that some of the coaching staff seem to think they have

Fraser - that he can pass the ball forwards as well as backwards

Whing - can he keep his aggression channeled in the right way

Forster - can he be the driving force to lead us to promotion

Murray - can his 'lazy' style fool defenders into thinking he is in fact lazy and then stun them with quality goals

The new signings - that MA is right to give them the chance to shine

MA - that Dick Knight was right to bring him back to replace a coach that took us to the brink of the play-offs last year

Dean White - that he is a number 2 with valid input

Bob Booker - that he can get better at impersonating Freddie Mercury

I think that just about covers everyone!

Oh - us, the fans - that we won't be on anyones back calling for them to be dropped/sacked at the slightest misjudged pass/ wayward shot/ mistimed tackle/ bad team selection or poor substitution.

I think we all have something to prove this season.

Hmm, Virgo hasn't done much apart from play in the league above us for the past three seasons. Kuipers has nothing at all to prove, earnt the no 1 shirt last year.

Cox I would agree with though.

With Mayo back in the squad you're asking for a miracle-sections of the home fans never let up in their vocal dislike of him. Also, there are a few who are still bitter at Wilkins' removal so they'll be anti Adams/Dick Knight at every opportunity-some of them have been in pre-season training longer than the players.

How can Sullivan prove that if he is NEVER given a league game to play in ?.

So what do we do? Drop our number 1 goalkeeper simply to give the number 2 a game? Isn't that what the reserve games are for-for back-up players to learn and prove themselves? If he's good enough, his time will come.
