Chaigneau 7.5 - Shaky start, but improved substantially. Much better distribution than Kuipers.

Lynch 8 - Very good debut; strong, solid and decent enough in possession.
Butters 7 - Defended soundly against good forwards.
McShane 7 - Some excellent tackles, very strong under pressure.
El Abd 6.5 - Good defensively, some shocking passing.

Frutos 6.5 - In and out.
Mayo 6.5 - Recovered from a poor start, got the goal.
Carpenter 7 - Fought hard under considerable pressure.
Carole 6.5 Some good runs; as ever, little end product.

McCammon 5 - Good in the air early on, but degenerated. Shite on the deck, too easily outmuscled.
Robinson 7 - Worked hard, showed some nice touches - neat turn for the goal.

Mayo 8 - MOM where did that performance come from!!??!!
Carpenter 6.5 - he's not fit is he

Chaigneau 7 (I was worried but he did well after a shaky start)
El Abd 6
McShane 7
Butters 7
Lynch 7 ..so not the defence's fault we lost

Carole 5 anoymous and should have tracked back with their left back before the first goal)
Carpenter 7
Mayo 7
Frutos 8 m.o.m-threatened throughout

McCammon 5
Robinson 6

Subs Jarrett 5
Gatting on too short a time to rate.

Ref Riley very good-an easy afternoon for him but some FL refs would have still managed to ruin the game.

I wont do players ratings, seeing as I'm a fairweather fan and all that, but I thought they all did well. Tank was pleased for Lynch, he did good.

Crowd 10/10......... You sure know how to make some noise!

My ears are still bloody ringing from DTG yelling ALBIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON in them without any warning

Nice to meet some of ya at last, Yorkie, Ned, DTG, El Pres, Dover, Biscuit

El-Abd - 7 - Solid as ever but needs to work on his distribution
McShane - 6 - Didn't do a lot wrong
Butters - 6 - Ditto
Lynch - 7 - We may have one here
Carole - 6 - Needs to learn not to be too clever in the defensive third. Attacking threat though
Carpenter - 6 - Still coming back from injury.
Mayo - 7 - Scored. Might have a future in the middle of the park.
Frutos - 7 - Played well
McCammon- 6 - Tries hard but has his limitations.
Robinson - 6 - Worked hard but lacked service.

Subs
Jarrett - 6 - Didn't do much

Chaigneau 6 - Handling not good enough. What did Kuipers do to get dropped. Made a few good saves in the second half.

Lynch 8 - MOTM. Excellent. Won everything in the air and looked competent out of position.
Butters 6 - Too slow for this level.
McShane 7 - Looking like he is getting back to his best.
El Abd 7 - Some good tackles. Passing a bit suspect at times.

Frutos 6.5 - Possibly should have been replaced by Cox.
Mayo 7 - Last time he had a season in central midfield he was joint top scorer with Jeff Minton. 10/10 for effort.
Carpenter 7 - 10/10 for effort as above.
Carole 6.5 - Not his best game.

McCammon 5 - Did not do nearly enough. Would rather he wasn't on the pitch towards the end but can see why McGhee persisted with a big man up front.
Robinson 6 - Got to do better. Has the potential and I am sure he will improve.

Jarrett - Waste of a substitution.
Gatting - Did not get a chance to show the talent he has.
Cox - Should have come on.

Stewards - Absolute knob jockeys.

Chaigneau - 8, can't complain about his peformance really.
El-Abd - 8, had a good game.
McShane - 6, didn't seem as effective as usual.
Butters - 7, nice and strong as usual.
Lynch - 8, fantastic performance.
Carole - 7, didn't seem to make as many chances as usual.
Carpenter - 6, didn't do much.
Mayo - 7, good game.
Frutos - 8, got some good crosses in, was nifty on that left wing.
McCammon- 5, only slightly useful in the air today.
Robinson - 7, when the ball was at his feet, I felt he was going to do something with it.

Intresting varient of marks on Frutos. I thought he was our brighest spark today. Everything came through him bombing down the wing. Far more effective than Carole.

I'm sure wingers will play better when they have something to aim at.

Chaigneau - 7 (did ok, dropped a couple)

El-Abd - 7 (solid)

McShane - 7 (solid, but perhaps could have done better for first goal)

Butters - 7 (solid)

Lynch - 8 (good debut, and is he left footed?)

Carole - 6 (ineffective)

Carpenter - 6 (worked very hard, did well considering fitness)

Mayo - 7 (good goal, worked hard, but a few misplaced passes)

Frutos - 6.5 (looked like our only danger man, but woeful defensively)

McCammon- 6.5 (worked hard, won many flick ons)

Robinson - 7 (looked threatening at times, did well to set up the goal)

Jarrett - Never had the ball
Gatting - Not on long enough to judge

Ref - 10/10.

Chaigneau 7 Kept us in the game in the last 20 minutes, but the ending shouldn't spoil a good day for him

El Abd 7 Some crucial blocks and tackles
McShane 8 Back to his tigerish best, so dynamic, our clear MOTM
Butters 7 Marshalled the rearguard well given that it was a bit Alamo-like at times
Lynch 7 Confident full debut and stuck to the hard task of Dyer well.

Carole 5 A bizarre off day. Caught a bad tackle in the first half and that was the last we saw him. Needs a recharging rest before Leeds
Carpenter 6 Involved in our best movements but this was a tough day for our midfield defensively, and often could not provide the cover the defence needed
Mayo 6 Struggled early on but then worked his socks off to get his side back in the game
Frutos 7 Energetic display, produced a great save from Neimi, the turning point of the game, alas

McCammon 6.5 Another decent shift from the big man, but still needs to work himself harder into scoring positions
Robinson 6.5 Bright display and his movement was instrumental in unsettling the Saints defence

Subs Jarrett 6 Little opportunity as the service to the front men had gone by the time he came on
Gatting on too short a time to rate.

McGhee 9 Thought this was one of his best tactical days of the season, mixed the newcomers, some old hands and some positional switches superbly to get us near the level of Southampton. Interesting also that McGhee spent so much time trying to get Blackstock last season, fine player.

Can't be bothered with ratings but would pick out the main points.

Chaigneau looked shaky but got better as the match went on but not overly impressed to want to see him again.

El Abd getting better each game needs an extended run.

Lynch very impressive debut looked comfortable and can kick with his left foot as a left back.

Butters mister reliable did nothing wrong.

McShane encouragingly showed why we may be able to sign him permenantly as he isnt good enough for the top but is for us easily turned for their 1st goal.

Carole & Frutos luxury that we cannot afford playing both at the same time.

Mayo did the simple things simply and didnt lose the ball or give away freekicks around the edge of ther box one of his best games for many a month.

Carpenter looked happy having a holding man alongside him which allowed him the freedom to play.

Robinson looked sharp but unlikely to score a goal or get into the penalty area.

McCammon to quote MM' we have got to teach him how to score a goal' held the ball up well when it was 5 / 6ft off of the ground.

McGhee another disappointing day with use of substitutes is there a College of Further Education that teaches when and how to use substitutes if so please enrol MM BB and DW.

My view based ENTIRELY on the radio...

Chaigneau - sounded like he was verypoor first half, commentators seemed to think he couldn't hold anything. Sounded like he had a much better second half.

The defence - seemed pretty solid. Lynch was mentioned a lot, greatly impressed the commentators.

Midfield - Chippy and Mayo were barely mentioned. Sounded like Frutos and Carole were lively and threatening- maybe a different reading to most on here!

McCammon and Robinson - sounded like McCammon did pretty well. Winning the ball in the air, causing a nuisance etc. Robinson sounded like he worked hiss balls off and had one of his best games.

N.B Norman Gall was co-commentator so...
