It was in the air long enough. He started to come, then changed his mind - all he needed to do was get a punch on it.

Reid just left his man to get a free head! No blame to Kuipers!

So no blame for the defender not doing his job? ??? But blame for the keeper who didn't have a chance with the cross? :dunce:

Definately with you on this Happy! I had a great view of Reid spectating!

Reid was at fault personally, but he could have been saved the (difficult) task of challenging the defender if Kuipers had left his line for once and got at least a punch on the ball.

FDM did an interview with 442 this month, stating he felt he could play in the Premiership - the difference at that level is that keepers do come for crosses, and communicate better with their defences.

Kuipers came off his line but realised he didn't have a chance with the cross. It was down to Reid to help him out, not just stand like a statue.

If he hadn't been indecisive and unconfident, he would have made it, I'm sure. He has never been good on judging crosses, his major weakness.

Reid was at fault though, agreed - he didn't get off the floor at all.

I'm 99% sure he'd never have made it either way. The worse thing is, that if he had stayed on his line he would probably have saved the header.

I prefer roberts but agree kuipers should keep the jersey but he really should have come for the wovles goal and if it was anything like that should have come for the one today,

the 6 yard box is the keepers

Kuipers - 7 Looked solid but got caught out for goal
Reid -7 Got caught flatfooted for the goal but played pretty well otherwise
Hinshelwood - 7 Did little wrong
Butters - 7 Solid as ever
Mayo - 8 Much better. Tackled well and was effective attacker
Carpenter - 7 Not the Chippy of old,but well-taken goal
Oatway - 7 Busy as usual
Nicolas - 6 First off-game I've seen him have
Hart - 8 Our most effective attacker. Chased hard all game
Virgo - 6 Poor, apart from goal
McCammon - 7 Worked hard but found it hard to turn on pitch

Jones - 7 Injected sense of urgency

I don't think you can blame either Reid or Kuipers for their goal. The Gills player that scored came in on a run from outside the box. Perhaps he should have been tracked back by a midfielder? I don't think Reid had a chance with the header - perhaps he could have obstructed him and risked a penalty (and a red card), but the other guy had too much momentum. It was very much like Virgo's against Swindon.

Kuipers was never going to reach the ball but came out because the defence obviously weren't going to get there - it was one for the defenders, but was just too good.

Fair points, but the ball was in the air to be won. Nothing was stopping Reid from going for it either.
