One of the best Albion performances I can remember, particularly in the 2nd half and extra time. How many 1st team regulars did Sunderland have in their line-up?

Ankergren 7. Acouple of really good stops. Did what he needed to.
Calderon 8. Maybe back to his best and covered well at CB in 2nd half.
Greer 8. Excellent performance until he went off.
Dunk 9. Just shaded by Noone for MOM. Immense. The guy is amazing.
Painter 7. Worried about him in the 1st half. Big improvement after half time.
Bridcutt 8. Another great game.
Navarro 7. A couple of misplaced passes, but otherwise a very good game particularly as first start for a very long time. And great cross for the goal.
Harley 7. Good game. Loks to be a very good signing.
Noone 9. MOM. The guy had a truly outstanding game. Best display by an Albion winger that can remember.
Barnes 8. Held the ball up well. Tackled back regularly. Great ball control.
CMS 8. Well taken goal and another top flight game.

Vincelot 8. Slotted in very well to the CB position until injured.
Lua Lua 7. Better than his last cameo, but nowhere near up to Noone's standard.

How could I have forgotten Tarrico! He gets a 8. Did very well when he came on. Still a class act.

Bridcutt is awesome, does everything right and looks like he has so much time to do everything he wants to. Can't remember him even misplacing a pass tonight.

I'm not one for giving player ratings as I don't think I usually give them accurately, but I will give some comments on the performances.

Noone was unplayable, completely terrorising everyone he came up against. If he continues this form then I wonder how long it will be until someone else comes sniffing around him. A deserved MoM.

Dunk put in a superb performance - a lot of pressure on him tonight, especially when Greer went off but he looked completely unflustered. The strikers got no change out of him, even when they went 3 and then 4 up front.

Vincelot looked comfortable at centreback. I think he could definitely do a job there if needed, in a similar vein to Mascherano at Barca who has become something of a playmaking centreback for them.

The midfield trio looked very sharp, lead by Bridcutt as normal. That boy is quality. Harley looked pretty good once he got going, and Navarro did a tidy job breaking up play.

Barnes and CMS worked hard all night, especially CMS but we've come to expect that from him as standard. His energy came into it's own when it was backs to the wall at the end of the game as he was the only man up and still caused trouble and if nothing else would keep the ball.

Great to see Tano get a game, but unfortunate circumstances, and KLL looked lively when he came on and did exactly what was needed. Get the ball, keep the ball in a dangerous position, win a freekick/offload to a midfielder. Perfect example of this was when we was on his own on the left wing and was faced with three defenders - danced his way past one then got fouled by the third as he went past the second.

Collectively, we looked like we were the premier league team. Kept possession well, positive with the ball, defended well. A couple of iffy moments, notably at the start when we gave the ball away in our own box. Obviously they are still a premier league side (a put out a strong team) so when they did have the ball, they looked like they might cause problems but on the whole the defence was watertight and anything that did get through was well stopped by Ankegren.

I know they've not been playing that well recently but we looked very, VERY comfortable against Sunderland tonight. We definitely deserved the win, and dare I say it, perhaps 2-0 would have been a fairer reflection. A few times we were in and around the box but still passing it around rather than taking a shot. Still, this is a minor gripe about an excellent performance.

Conclusion: We're f***ing brilliant.

Everywhere
Ankergren 7. Stopped what he had to, distribution was spot on
Calderon 7. Not as rampaging going forward but was solid in everything he had to do
Greer 8. Looks fit and totally on his game
Dunk 8. Stardom beckons
Painter 8. Took some unnecessary stick from Saturday, done well against the dangerous Sessegnon
Bridcutt 9. Best player on the pitch by a country mile
Navarro 7.Some good touches, especially the ball for CMS goal. Coming back to match fitness.
Harley 6. Some nice touches, when he gets up to speed with our team shape and his role in the side will be a great signing
Noone 8. Played well, especially first half, beat his man but end product whereby that be a cross or finish was slightly lacking
Barnes 8. Strong on the ball and seemed to find a lot of space
CMS 8. Well taken goal Seemed to take a knock, had a hard job up against a premiership defence but coped very well.

Vincelot 7. Seemed to do well, unfortunately injured, hope its not too bad.
Lua Lua 6. Seems to be of the pace at the moment, he will get there though
Tanno 7 still has the nous to play at this standard.

Bridcutt is my favourite player and gets better and better every week.

This was Nooney's best game yet. Please don't let Steve Bruce make a bid for him.

CMS wow! Harley what a brilliant debut

But LEWIS DUNK FFS !!!

What a brilliant performance, especially once GG had gone off and considering the multi million pound players he was playing against.

The rest of the team were just brilliant by comparison

Ankergren 8. - Didn't hold on to the ball, which led to unnecessary pressure in the first half when parried into the danger zone, but great on the ball despite great pressure, and some really good saves late on.
Calderon 7.5 - Did well in his usual role, and also showed adaptability and was very competent centre back
Greer 8. - Much better performance on recent games, not giving the ball away so often
Dunk 9. - Showed in the second half when playing alongside Vincelot and Calderon that his recent quality isn't all down to Greer
Painter 7 - Continues to impress with his positional sense
Bridcutt 8.5 - bossed midfield, breaking up play, making some great tackles, and good distribution.
Navarro 7. - Early on people seemed to keep giving him the ball when he was surrounded by sunderland players, but he kept his cool, and assisted with breaking up play and distributing it well.
Harley 7. - Tidy debut. His set pieces look like they could be dangerous if we face a keeper who doesn't come out as far to collect the ball as Sunderland's keeper did.
Noone 8 - incredible work rate, and he terrorised their defence. In the first half he continued to try to take on too many players, or work himself into shooting position when others are waiting for the ball.
Barnes 8 - Tremendous contribution. When he didn't have the ball he slotted back to support Calderon, marked richardson and kept him quiet, broke up their attacks set up a couple of chances, made some good 1-2s with Calderon, shared the closing their defence down duties with CMS
CMS 8.5 - Kept working deep into extra time, that man has incredible energy lessons, well taken goal.
Vincelot 7.5 Looked comfortable for the short period he was on.
Lua Lua 7.5 Drew plenty of fouls and added to Noone's threat for their defence.
Taricco 7.5 Used his experience well, and helped close the game out.

Ankergren 7. didnt really put a foot wrong maybe punches at shots a bit 2 often but solid
Calderon 8. Was a very good performance by Calderon, played right back, right midfield and centre back so really had to adapt and did all very well

Greer 8. i really hope he is okay as he was solid as usual and building a amazing partnership with Dunk
Dunk 9. wow what a player we have in Dunk he was amazing didnt put a foot wrong, no way is el abd going to get this position back off dunk, i thought was even more impressive that he seemed to get better when greer went off
Painter 7 - defended well but sometimes got beaten on the wing but still a good performance
Bridcutt 9 - He controlled the midfield, he is getting better every game we gotta get him on a longer contract asap
Navarro 8 - great cross for the goal and played excellently, very impressed thought the pace might be a bit much for him but coped brillantly
Harley 7 - getting used to the way we play and fitness seems a bit off but you can tell he is a good player and likes to sit a bit further forward than any of our other midfielders a good debut
Noone 10 - . This guy is a god, he is insane, scares the hell out of defenders, he beat the full back gee how many times, good on left and right foot - going to be a legend at this club
Barnes 7 - im a big fan of barnes as works socks off for us but sometimes just a bit slow getting rid of ball
CMS 8. - he is doing what we bought him for to score the important goals, unlucky not to have two today 0 looks a bargain at 2.25 million

subs

Vincelot 8.- looked very good in central defence before going off injuried
Lua Lua 7. - did some useful bits sunderland was at times putting 3 men on him when got the ball, he will perform for us and will be a great signing but at the moment noone and buckley outperforming Lua Lua.
Tanno - 8 - looks pure class on the ball, just knows what to do in situations, never gives the ball away.

1st half performance 5 - thought we let sunderland dominate and didnt push at them enough
2nd half performance 9 - more like it, we went at sunderland and showed them what we about and pressed them better
Extra time - 8 - again the better team and never looked in any real danger
Atmosphere - 8 - not as good as some saturdays but had its moments of great atmosphere
Trains - 2 - only because managed to get it, you would have thought if entertainment on like football you would maybe put more trains on or until later as sadly had to run out of stadium to get train and sprint down to station and not clap off players from a awesome performance
Sunderland fans - 7 - great effort in numbers was quite quiet but we did control the game so i guess you would be quite frustrated as they had 60% of team who started vs newcastle, and we looked the better team for majority of game which i see quite a few reports agree with.
Ref - 0- d'ruso your an embarassment, properly the worse performance i have ever seen by a ref

How Noone gets anything less than 9 in some of these comments is astounding. He waltzed past PREMIER LEAGUE full backs all evening as if they weren't there. Not to mention his role in the winning goal.

And Dunk was simply outstanding.

Ankergren 8 - made 3 superb one-on-one saves and his distribution was mustard.
Painter 7.5 - quiet but efficient.
Calderon 8 - even looked like a centre back at the end, absolutely mugged off with the booking, stonewall pen.
Greer 6.5 - very comfortable and commanding whilst on. Marked down for only playing a half.
Dunk 9.5 - close to an absolutely perfect performance. Composed, strong, quick, aerially dominant - MOM for me.
Bridcutt 9 - ran Dunk close as the best player on the pitch. At the centre of absolutely everything.
Harley 8 - worked hard, a little quiet first half up against Cattermole but stamped his authority more as the game went on.
Navarro 7.5 - broke play up well, great cross for the goal, but is seriously slow and turned into trouble too often.
Noone 9 - another MOM contender - faded late on but for 75 minutes he ran them ragged. Still working hard even at the death.
Barnes 8 - won a lot of free kicks, held it up really well, if only he'd put away the rebound in the first half!
Mackail-Smith 8 - not a lot came off for him but a willing chaser all game, and popped up when it mattered with the goal.

Vincelot 6 - not on long enough to do much before his injury but won a few in the air where he had no right to.
Taricco 7.5 - horrendous scything 'take a yellow' challenge as they countered but very tidy and intelligent player.
LuaLua 7.5 - stretched them well alternating flanks, seems not to quite have the edge he did last year yet, but getting there.

D'Urso - genuinely in my top 5 worst refereeing performances ever. To book Calde for a dive was scandalous, he was 3 yards out and round the keeper, why go down!? Cattermole was very lucky in the first half too, went in two footed on Harley (I think!?!) and on another day with a ref who knew what he was doing, could've seen red.

Don't wish particularly to question anything you say but

Dunk gave away a free kick for which he may have been sent off but otherwise his was an excellent performance. We don't need him to be suspended - he just needs to be aware and remember that he is good enough without that extra 'edge'

But I reply specifically re Ryan Harley who, it has to be remembered , is short of match fitness and who signed for us only on Thursday.

He started slowly but by the end of his STINT and before he was substituted some time after an attack of cramp (not surprisingly), I thought, WOW, this guy is going to be special. I believe he will be absolutely great for us. WELCOME !

Dunk & Noone should rate as 10's apiece both truly outstanding and influential in beating a decent Premiership side. No real weak links in the side last night, only possibly Barnes played below his usual best.

Have to disagree, I thought Barnes was outstanding. Not playing in his usual position for any part of the night, yet filled in nicely on the wing. The when Harley went off I thought he did really well in the attacking midfielder position, linking up well with the rest of the midfield and showing some excellent hold-up play. Also put in a great defensive performance when we were under pressure.
