First game I have seen this season and a big disappointment. Same old stuff we have been watching for so long. In fact our end of last season central midfield of Fraser, Loft and Dicker was better than what we had out there today.

Kuipers 7. Dealt well with what he had to deal with. Some of kicking was erattic.

Whing 7. Made some important tackles. Distribution OK.

Elphick 8. Excellent game. MOM.

Virgo 8. Solid pairing with Elphick. A couple of excellent long balls.

Jake Wright 4. Made me nervous every time he was near the ball. Hope we didn't pay too much for him. Looked out of his depth.

Mark Wright 6. OK sort of game, but I kept hoping for more from him.

Navarro 5. Anonymous. What did he do?

Crofts 5. Marginally better than Navarro, but not by much.

McLeod 5. Couple of major lost opportunities. Tried to go round his man one time but clearly did not have the pace.

Cox 6. Not a lot to praise. OK at best.

Dickinson 3. Didn't win more than one header all game. Not good at holding the ball up. One nice piece of skill with the ball at his feet and one good shot.

Subs:
ElAbd 7. The defence looked a lot more solid when he replaced Jake.
Murray 6. Won a lot in the air. Some good skill. Twice the talent that Dickinson has.
Thornhill 5. Not much time to judge.

Manager 4. Lone striker is a poor tactic. Why not start Dicker? Why not Murray and Forster up front, at least for half an hour? They were are best strike partnership last season and both on the bench.

Don't like standing behind the goal. You get to see plenty of close-up action at your end of the pitch, but not a good location to get an overall impression of the game.

This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo not the game Gally was watching. According to him Crofts and Navarro were superb and certainly seemed to be the case from the commentary... anyone else at Brentford wish to comment?

I agree with the Crofts mark not seeing what Slade sees but early days. Navarro was slightly better nearly scored first half after some clever play. Don't agree with the Jake Wright mark after a nervy start he settled very quickly. Dickinson looked much better once Murray went up with him, the one up top really ain't working

Can't really be bothered to do all the ratings but i've heard so much about how well Navarro and Crofts played today.......are you serious?
Navarro was (as mentioned by Badger) anonymous and Crofts seemed OK but nothing to write home about.
I think people are forgetting that these are the players that should be making solid and neat passes. Our passing was bloody terrible today, so many found their way straight to a Brentford player it was unbelievable.

I feel sorry for Dickinson though. He is getting alot of stick on here for having no talent. It really doesn't help that the service is bloody hoofball for 90 minutes. He tries to nod it down for someone (which in the case today was no one, nice call on the 4-5-1 Slade) and just ends up losing the ball.
We saw from the Walsall game how much better he played when he actually a strike partner to play with in the 2nd half. If you are going to play Dickinson upfront alone, at least have an attacking midfielder that is going to get forward and help him out a little!

Michel 6 - Not much to do.

Whing 6 - distribution is poor, but defended well.
Elphick 6 - good battling performance, the sort of match he's suited to.
Virgo 6 - same as Elphick.
Wright 2 - nowhere near league 1 standard, taken off again to save his blushes

Wright 3 - bad first touch, no crosses, couldn't beat a man.
Crofts 2 - already earmarked as the next Fraser. Total waste of space.
Navarro 2 - anonymous. I genuinely didn't realise he was playing. In fact, I'm still not convinced.
McLeod 4 - couldn't deliver a final ball, but at least looked like he wanted to make something happen.

Cox 6 - typical Cox performance, but no chance created or on-target shot in 90 minutes is poor.

Dickinson 1 - nothing more to say, except I'm better than him and I admit I'm crap!

I think people are over-reacting a bit, it wasn't that bad. We limited Brentford to very few openings and showed a bit more promise going forward than we did last week.

Kuipers 6 - Did ok, not a great deal to do really.

Whing 5 - Isn't as good as he was last season, pretty poor distribution.

Virgo 7 - Defended brilliantly, clueless when the ball was at his feet.

Elphick 7 - Same as Virgo, I think this is one of our big problems.

J Wright 4 - The weak link in the defence, but I think he'll get better.

M Wright 5 - Disappointing on the whole, a good shot in the first half and some nice touches.

Navarro 5 - A bit quiet, but I like him. Plays the simple ball and didn't have any mad moments like last week. Was often bypassed by the hoofing defenders.

Crofts 5 - Had a good shot in the second half, but wasn't too noticable. Like Navarro, didn't see much of the ball as it often got hoofed past him.

McLeod 6 - Had an opportunity to impress today and did so in patches. A couple of great crosses and a decent effort from a free kick. However, some shitter crosses and a lack of pace.

Cox 6 - Worked his nuts off and tried to get the team going. Great effort from Cox today.

Dickinson 5 - Won very little in the air and should have made more of his chance early in the second half. I do feel for him, because being played on his own is doing him few favours.

Subs:

El-Abd - 7 Played well, very solid at RB.

Murray - 1 Stinking attitude, hope he never plays for us again.

Thornhill - 4 Anonymous.

The few times we did get it on the deck, we actually looked reasonably good. However, brainless hoofing from Virgo and Elphick was far more common, leading to a frequent turnover of possession and a lack of cohesion.

I must confess I can't see where people have got their Crofts and Navarro marks on this thread (except for Complete Badger who clearly wants Crofts to be the new Fraser so will give him a 4 at most even if he scored a hattrick). I thought they were solid and provided a very good platform for the four attacking players, none of whom did very well although Cox improved in the second half. All our best play came from central midfield rather than wide.

Defensively, Elphick and Virgo were probably battling for man of the match (probably Elphick just winning) and Kuipers did all he had to do well. The full backs started off shakily but Jake Wright improved as the game went on and it was a shame he got injured although Whing improved at left back and El Abd did well when he came on.

Overall, a solid display and thoroughly deserved point but the question is where is a goal going to come from?

Kuipers 6 - Wasn't asked to do much, but did it pretty well. Looks like his kicking is back to the old FDM.

Whing 6 - Was okay, but didn't inspire great confidence.

Virgo 7 - Defended well, far too many thoughtless long balls though.

Elphick 7 - Same as Virgo.

J Wright 6 - Thought he started nervously but got better. Don't understand the criticism of some on here.

M Wright 5 - Disappointing, was hoping for much more. Didn't get much decent ball.

Navarro 6 - Did alright. Helps us to retain possession and seems to be able to pick out a pass.

Crofts 5 - Is a facilitator like Navarro, but not quite as good. They can't play together because it stifles all creativity.

McLeod 6 - Looks much improved from last season. Needs to build up his confidence a bit

Cox 6 - Tried hard but struggled to get decent ball. Is that really his best position?

Dickinson 6 - Worked hard, but the service to him was dire. We've already established that despite being tall he's not a target man, so why was 95%+ of the service to him long high balls? Also missed a good chance, looks a bit goal-shy. I think he'll be alright once he scores his first.

Subs:

El-Abd - 7 Did a decent shift at right back.

Murray - 6 Marked for his reasonable contribution. The first time I've seen him actually look like he's putting some effort in. Unfortunately let himself down terribly with his reaction at the end of the game. Get rid ASAP.

Thornhill - 4 Didn't notice he was playing.

yeah - they were shit

It sounds to me like the local radio spaz's, clutching at straws for something to say as usual, decided to tell everyone how well Crofts and Navarro played. As such, everyone who listened on the radio is repeating this on here tonight. All of us at the game seem to be fairly unanimous in the opinion that they were shit. It's very disappointing because after doing so well to get rid of turd like Fraser and Loft we've wasted the chance to move forward by just replacing them with similarly bad players.

Fraser and Loft were decent players, so as usual you speak from your profusive derrier, Tadger.

Kuipers 6 Handled everything well kicking seems to be improving under Goddens guidance.
Whing 6 Poor first half until Virgo bollocked him and told him to get rid quicker good 2nd half at left back.
Elphick 8 very solid and dependable.
Virgo 8 MOM Good all round performance as a defender and captain as shown with the incident with Whing.
J Wright 4 Weak link appears to be trying to hard to justify his place and is being reckless in tackles.
M Wright 5 Didnt beat his man and get a cross in enough times always looks like he will do something special.
Navarro 7 Very workmanlike performance controlled the midfield
Croft 7 His best pertformance and carried or kicked the ball between defence and attack well.
Cox 6 Plenty of effort no reward.
McLeod 5 Too slow and unable to beat a man and like MW not enough crosses.
Dickenson 4 Good control with ball at his feet then everything stops doesnt look as if he knows where the goal is.

Subs;

El Abd 6 Made a difference when he came on and expect him to start Tuesday against Huddersfield at right back with Whing at left back.

Murray 6 Some nice touches showed that he is our only hope for a goal. Please RS sort his head out. Not the one that provided a number of flick ons from FDM.

Thornhill 5 Not on long enough but generally disappointing as I was expecting a lot more from him.

I can only say what I saw and I think that it was the best performance that these 2 have put in so far in midfield. The idea of the midfield is what the name says they are in the middle of the field to link defence to attack and they did that very well yesterday by both carrying the ball forward or when needed kicking it forward.

El Abd came on and did a satisfactory job at right back and Whing was better when he went to left back so the logic is start the defence as it finished yesterday unless Jimmy Mc is fit.

Brentfords only form of attack was the long throw as they were not given the room to do otherwise.
