Well that was well and truly awful, guess we are allowed off days and it's pretty fair to say that a defeat has been coming considering the poor performance against Fulham. CH got it wrong today. We could have played until midnight and we still wouldn't have scored. Credit to Preston totally deserved.

Stockdale - 5 - personally think he could have done a lot better with both of their goals, the header took an eternity to drop into the net by the post, was almost like slow motion. The second he's beaten by a shot going across goal. Really harsh to criticise considering the amount of points he has won us previously but today was a bad day for him.

Bruno - 3 - second game in a row now where he has been partcilularly off form. Constantly beaten by the Preston players to the ball and quite a few sloppy passes.
Duffy - 5 - better of the two centre backs but was beaten in the air so many times today.
Goldson - 4 - looked really off the pace, shadow of the player he was last season. Needs minutes to get back to full sharpness so should be playing in some U23 games.
Adekugbe - 5 - going forward he looked okay, offering the overlap and a few good crosses but defensively he looked horrific. Was targeted by Preston as the weak link, improved in the second half but can clearly tell he was 3rd choice player for that position.

Knockaert - 5 - not his day, some flashes of brilliance but towards the end of the game he kind of gave the impression that he knew we were gonna lose so couldn't be arsed anymore. Poor free-kicks and corners all game.
Sidwell - 5 - him and Norwood can't play together, Sidwell was slightly better and won more tackles in the midfield
Norwood - 5 - for a set-piece specialist every corner went straight into the 'keepers arms. Duffy has a right go at him following another poor corner.
Skalak - 4 - I can see why CH plays him away from home but he's really struggling at the moment. Seems to have turned into the fans new player to moan at. A handful booed and cheered when he went off which should never happen, Murphy looked better when he came on.

Baldock - 5 - didn't get into the game, rightly substituted. Preston's defence were pretty immense today
Murray - 5 - same as Baldock, couldn't get into the game. Constantly targeted by the referee for niggly little fouls.

Murphy - 6 - played like he had a point to prove today and improved the team going forward when he came on. Few stupid offside decisions by him
Hemed - 4 - didn't do a lot, poor penalty.
Kayal - 7 - should start the next game, showed real passion and fight towards the end when others gave up. Should have started in my eyes.

It was a tough away game, Johnny and Warren said we played well and it just didn't go our way, so I'm surprised those scores are so low.

Stockdale: 5 - thought maybe first was in his zone, didn't actually have much else to do in game apart from pick ball out of net one more time.
Adekugbe: 4 - His pace got us out of trouble once, but looked out of depth and final ball was poor on occasions he overlapped.
Duffy: 6 - Won his aerial battles in defence.
Goldson: 5 - Not up to speed. Main problem is he's not Lewis Dunk.
Bruno: 5 - couple of nice bits of interplay with Knockeart, not great otherwise.
Skalak: 5 - got very little help playing in front of Adekugbe
Sidwell: 5 - didn't get control
Norwood: 5 - his dead ball delivery was uncharacteristicly poo.
Knockaert: 5 - couple of nice bits of skill but terrible delivery today.
Murray: 6 - decent hold up and usual Murray stuff in/around box but loses point for needlessly giving ball away for their route 1 counter for the 2nd.
Baldock: 5

Kayal: 8 - He made us look like a team capable of scoring. Has to start on Friday assuming he's good for 90 mins.
Hemed: 5 - The keeper had done his research and faked a dive to his left before diving the other way.
Murphy: 6 - added a bit of forward impetus, not much though.

Staggered by some of these comments especially about Adekugbe. Seems like us radio listeners are not sure what the real truth is

Listen to Chris Hughton's post-match interview. He states we were beaten by a team who played much better than what we did and deserved to win. Hopefully this is a very small minor blip on our road for the rest of the season.

Likewise. JC and Warren were very complimentary of the lad. The way they told it was a bright spark in an otherwise poor performance.

Hmmmm not so sure , maybe potential. But a top of the table team shouldn't be starting a rookie player like that in a tough away game

Kayal was the only bright spot for me

Stockdale 6: Good kicking, a bit flat footed for the goals
Adekugbe 7: Linked well with Skalak, one excellent saving tackle in second half
Bruno 5: Done for pace in second goal and a few misplaced passes
Goldson 5: Battled well in the air but a long way off Dunk's recent form
Duffy 6: Solid and had a handful with their striker
Skalak 4: Theatrical dives do him no favours. Set piece delivery picked out their keeper too often.
Sidwell 6: Tenacious tackling but lacked usual finesse with the ball, which he gave away too often
Norwood 5: Tidy, neat, organised, but did nothing with the ball in the final third
Knockaert 5: Frustrating and often frustrated.
Baldock 4: Fairly anonymous, actually remove the word 'fairly' from that assessment
Murray 6: Had to live off crumbs, ended up on wing too often but out over our best crosses.

Subs
Hemed: 3: Missed a penalty, did nothing else
Murphy 5: Better than Skalak, but that's not setting the benchmark high
Kayal 7: Looked very hungry when he came on and galvanised a lacklustre performance

Disappointing yes but for me this was always coming and better that it did against a team where it can't hurt us as much over and above another challenger.

Secondly perhaps Murray can now regain the penalty duty whoever is on the pitch? Thanks Tomer but had a fear that your style would be found out.

Thirdly perhaps this will strengthen our resolve to add to the squad this window?

I'm still glass half full. How about the rest of you?

You sound like BG! What else can you do when our other recognised LBs are temporarily injured and their reliable 3rd understudy and Mr Versatile has only played 45 minutes in 3 months?!

Did he take any set pieces? It was all Norwood and Knockaert, wasn't it? I thought this was strange given his ability.

That says more about Chris and the way he conducts himself than the way we played. He didn't make a fuss about Barton stamping on Kayal, or about Stephen's red card, but I know both decisions were wrong.

Kayal's return seems to be the only encouraging aspect of todays performance. Sounds like he can't wait to get back in the starting XI. Looking forward to Saturday, hopefully start with him and Stephens

When the other 3 players in front of him are all injured you don't have much choice.
