I thought we started brightly in the first few minutes, but liverpool soon established themselves. In the few minutes after they took the lead I was fearing a complete rout, but we held out, and late in the first half started to play our game more.

In the second half, Liverpool seemed to sit back and let us pile on the pressure. While I thought we played well over most of the pitch, it seemed that for all the pressure we put liverpool under, in that second half we rarely even tested Reina.

The first goal was poor defence, Bridcutt and greer left the gap for Bellamy, and goals from that angle across the keeper always look like they should be saved. The second is the sort you risk conceding when chasing an equaliser, and I don't think it's fair to fault anyone.

Ankergren 6.5 - Made one save, but too often was motionless and saved by the woodwork, errant finishing or defenders.

Vincelot 7.5
Cook 7.5 - solid return to the team, didn't look out of his depth
Greer 9 - I think he put in a fantastic performance, supported Cook and was a rock in defence
Calderon 7 made some good runs and linked well with noone

Sparrow 6.5
Bridcutt 8.5
Navarro 7

Buckley 7.5 - lacked a little with the final ball, but made some great runs, but seemed to go down too easily, and the ref seemed to pick up on that
CMS 7.5
Noone 8.5 - I usually find Noone frustrating as he often tries to take on too many men, make another turn, go back and eat a man again, but there was none of that tonight. Tremendous performance.

Vicente 8 - oozed class, and even when not 100% showed he still has a certain quality about him
Barnes 8 - I thought he looked up for it, wanted to be involved, positive, made some good turns and fit right into the team. Good finish for the pen.
Lualua 7

I thought the ref wasn't that bad. There was obviously some brighton fans questioning his decisions, but I thought h got most stuff right. There were a few liverpool challenges where I thought a yellow card would be shown had it been a brighton challenge, but generally I thought he was ok.

anyone else?

Massively proud of the performance against quality the likes of which most of our players haven't faced before.

Ankergren 6 - Looked really shaky to start with and was just generally poor tonight but one bad performance doesn't mean a bad goalkeeper.
Calderon 7 - I thought he did ok in defence and joined in when we were attacking but I still don't think he's as good as he was when he first joined us.
Vincelot 8 - I might be being a bit harsh, but I thought he looked better at left back than Painter has so far this season.
Greer 8 - A few brilliant tackles, kept Suarez and Bellamy quiet for most of the game and led our defence brilliantly. £250,000?... Bargain.
Cook 7 - Not as good as Dunk but proves we can produce a defender with quality and guile, did nothing wrong and looked composed and classy.
Bridcutt 7 - Not his most influential game in a packed midfield, but you can see his extra bit of quality on the ball.
Navarro 6 - I thought he did what was required of him, their midfield never took control of the game and he put in some good tackles.
Sparrow 6 - Disappointed with him, he didn't work as hard as the others from my opinion, I wanted to be able to come on here and big him up, but I can't.
Noone 8 - Genius. What a player, flourishing under Gus Poyet.
Buckley 7 - A few brilliant runs and obviously has the class to be a big influence on games for us, we just need to get him 100% fit.
CMS 6 - I was disappointed by him a little bit, he didn't really contribute much but he was up against quality defenders, though Coates was a bit suspect!

Subs
LuaLua 7 - Looked a lot better and sharper, can only bode well for friday and Palace...
Barnes 7 - Took his goal well and looked comfortable playing behind CMS, found more space and used the ball well.
Vicente 8 - What a player we've got there, oozed class and he's going to be massive for us when fully fit.

Very impressed with the gents tonight, I don't feel there is any need for criticism.

Bang on I reckon ... we were poor through the middle and I saw more balls over the top than in all other games put together. Scousers had done their homework and closed down Buckley or Noone like as fast as you could blink, making their performance even more impressive. CMS looked way too lonely .. he'll be getting pissed off soon

Right here, right now
Ankergren - looked a little shaky early on but wouldn't you when shots are coming at you from all over the park?

Calderon - seemed a bit more 'up for it' tonight and kept overlapping the winger to give an option.
Greer - solid, classy, do we realise how good he really is? Quality tackle at one point where he literally back heeled it away from the attacker
Cook - looked shaky early on but GG talked him through and he finished the game strongly (adam who and Tommy who?)
Vincelot - is it me or does he look brilliant wherever he plays? Rarely gives the ball away, comfortable and composed. Like him best in midfield best though.

Bridcutt - ran the midfield again
Navarro - getting better on his way back from injury - added bite to the midfield which we lack when Dicker plays there.
Sparrow - does a lot of work that people don't really see - good going forward and tracking back. Needs a run in the team.
Buckley - great going forward, blistering pace, but can he last 90 minutes?
Noone - Even before the game started you knew he would play a blinder tonight and he didn't disappoint. Deserved a goal.

CMS - full of running again but we couldn't get the ball to him so resorted to our midfielders taking shots rather than putting him through.

Vicente - clearly not fully match fit but still oozed class.
LuaLua - based on his performance tonight it would have been interesting to see him up against those two young full backs from the off. Would have tore them both a new one.
Barnes - Clearly very confident at the moment. Knows he will score a goal in a minute. If he talked as well as he played, he would speak like Stephen Fry wouldn't he? Yeah no of course!

Based on 5 as average.

Ankergren 6 A few flaps but overall ok
Calderon 6 Nothing special but did nothing wrong and what was expected of him.
Greer 8 Lead by example.
Cook 7 Didnt look overawed at all playing against stars.
Vincelot 8 Very good performance for a man playing in an unusual position.
Buckley 7 Some good runs and looked dangerous but overun the ball a number of times.
Navarro 5 A yard behind the game and was ball watching for a lot of the Liverpool attacks.
Sparrow 5 Weak link in midfield and was caught in possession too much
Noone 7 Very exciting but first touch let him down.
Bridcutt 8 Was the usual Mr Reliable and showed that he could well play in the Premiership.
CMS 7 100% trier who is having a difficult time as we do not get the ball to him quick enough.

Subs:

Vicente 7 Showed his class when he came on and will be an asset to us.
Barnes 7 Did what everybody knows he can do and took a very good penalty.
Lua Lua 6 Looked dangerous but needs to try to stay on his feet more.

isn't it great when we can consider the likes of navarro having below par games when they were facing top class opposition....shows how far we've come

casper.......did alright, not amazing, but just alright, which kind of sums him up i think. I DO think we can do a bit better than him to be honest. YES he's good on the ball and YES he doesn't do much wrong, but he's not as brilliant a player as what we have in other areas- 6

sexy inigo.......i just love him. Plenty of MARAUDING up the flank and looked fairly comfortable against maxi rodriguez. But then he can do no wrong in my eyes, so every game he get's a 10- 10

gordon grrrr.........faced with two top quality strikers alongside a rookie centre back. Looked good and left me with no illusions that he's a top centre back at championship level- 8

cook........he's not played for a couple of years now, and was really thrown in at the deep end against suarez and bellamy........did he look out of place? absolutely not. Very impressed- 7

the romain god- can he just actually play anywhere? he never seems to put a foot wrong. Kuyt is a world cup finalist and didn't cause him many problems considering he was out of position. Linked up well offensively aswell when you take into account that he's always on his wrong foot, would start him ahead of painter- 8

sparrow- was probably the right choice as i do get nervous with dicker. Gives a lot of energy and is reasonably good on the ball. I wish he just gave us a bit more as I do like him a lot- 6

navarro- like sparrow, was probably the right choice given his defensive abilities. Generally did his job ok but nothing spectacular- 6

bridcutt- oh my WORD. I really think he will go down as one of our greatest signings of all time. How he was without a club before us is beyond belief. Didn't look out of place against premiership midfielders and was one of the best players on the pitch. Offered superb defensive cover and showed off his passing range to the max. Was obviously overran at the end when it was basically just him defending, but proved to me that he is premiership quality- 8

noone- was always dangerous and was obviously fired up. I think he's probably one of the best players in the championship and £300k or whatever we paid for him is looking more and more the bargain each game. Was SO unlucky with that LE TISSIER that hit the bar and caused premiership defenders all sorts of problems- also a lot more intelligent a player than people give him credit for- 7

buckley- SO SO quick. made all sorts of problems but didn't really provide that much at the end of it. Still against championship full backs he'll cause all sorts of chilli con CARNAGE- 6

cms- caused problems with his work rate but never really threatened. He's a good option in that kind of game due to his apparent INFINITY STAMINA. The likes of Carragher, whatever people say, are still top level experienced centre backs so it was always going to be hard. But he creates space for others. Put him against championship defenders (apart from leicester) and he'll tear them a new one- 6

subs

lualua- yeah, hasn't been as RAMPANT as last season but against tiring full backs causes problems. I think with a bit more "gus time" he'll turn out to be a cracking championship winger- 6

barnes- WHAT a penalty and generally comfortable when he came on..........GET THE f***ing BALL NEXT TIME- 7

vicente- flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot flair overdrive error 2.4563 please reboot

Can't forget the first half in these... And looks hard to follow the guy above me :lolol:

ankergren 4 his aerial flapping is getting daft. And poor on kuyt's goal. Sometimes i wonder if all he is there for is his distribution.
Calderon 9 only player not to look out of place in the first half, absolute class.
Vincelot 8
greer 7
cook 7
navarro 5
bridcutt 7 - 5 for the first half, 9 for the second
sparrow 6 one of his better games in a while i thought, looked to be getting forward more than in recent times, could have scored twice
buckley 8 curates egg of a performance, certainly only one of our players to really worry them in first half, but some strange decision-making and poor final balls. Pleased with him overall though
noone 6 got on the ball a lot but didn't do much with it, missed a great chance and corners woeful.
Cms 4 less said the better. On a night when the whole team got to grips with liverpool by the second half, he didn't all night long
barnes 6 like his passion
vicente 7 straight away was in the thick of everything
lualua 6 really wanted to get at them, doesn't like being on the fringes

Its unfortunate that we lost the game in the first twenty minutes when we just werent att he races. As liverpool became more cautious we gained confşidence andf I think the scoreline in the end was a fair refşection o what was overall a very good perfromabnce. If ponyl we could play the fşrst twenty minutes again....

Ankergren - 6 looked very shaky at times esp in the first half but made one great save
Calde - 7 good eprformance typical Calde
Cook - 7 agree hes not Dunk but he looks good enought to play int he CHamp. Thought he did veryw ell, few mistakes.
Greer - 10 - isnt it funny that when Greer is about, it doesnt matter how raw his partner is. Thats the mark of a great captain. Did almost nthing wrong.
Vincelot - 8.5 definately not a left back as his positioning was awry but othe rthnas that was superb.
Bridcutt - 6.5 - Ok nut nothing special. Some great passes but also some poor ones. Wouldve liked to see more bite.
Navarro - 7 He and Vincelot reealy got stuck in and it was this that started to pull the game around for us. Having said that one awfully woeful pass shows he hasnt got his passing back to standard.
Noone - 9 - great game
Buckley - 7.5 - could have been as great as Noone but soemthign seemed always to be missing, a final pass/ cross, a good first touch.
Spazza - 5 poor... almost like playign with 10 men.
CMS - 6.5 - OK didnt have much service

Barnes - 7 hungry!
Vicente - 8 (potentially 10) if he stays fit..... worry about what championship defenders will do too him though... remember Kinkladze?
Lua Lua - 7 if only he could crosss

Ankergren 7 - Mixture of shaky (CMS goal-line clearance) to brilliance (the save he tipped onto the post). Seemed very nervous first half
Calderon 7 - Did well, not outstanding
Vincelot 8 - Excellent display. Very very impressed
Greer 8 - Same old Gordon. Assured and different gravy
Cook 7.5 - The biggest compliment is that I sometimes forgot Dunk wasn't playing. Makes you wonder why Gus signed Tommy up for more years
Bridcutt 9 - Premiership player. Him and Noone were our best players (again - seems to be the same every game)
Navarro 7 - Played well I thought.
Sparrow 5 - Barely touched the ball. When we bought him he was a standard above. The team has now moved to a standard above his level
Noone 9 - Premiership player
Buckley 8 - Excellent when he ran at Liverpool. I really rate him
CMS 6 - Flattered to deceive (dare I say, again). To be fair, playing up-front on his own isn't his game. Cue a loan move for Billy Paynter

Subs
LuaLua 7 - Looked decent. Scared them
Barnes 7.5 - Really looked the part when he came on. I've not been his biggest fan, but this season he's come on loads
Vicente 7.5 - Not fully fit, but oozes class

Casper - 5 - Should've done much better on first goal. Tight angle one option and Bellamy hit it. Flapped on cross and rescued by CMS.

Calderon - 7 - Pulled about a bit, but improved.
Vincelot - 8 - MoM for me. Timely interceptions, tracked back superbly - Paints could be in trouble.
Cook - 7 - Too deep and abit overawed at first. Picked up the pace well. A steady performance.
Greer - 7 - Allowed defence to play too deep in first half, solid again.

Sparrow - 6 - Flitted in and out. Pleased to see him get a game.
Bridcutt - 8 - Started slowly, got some instruction from Gus and was then brilliant
Navarro - 6 - Caught in possession too many time. Again looked better as the game went on.
Noone - 7 - Buzzed about and looked dangerous.
Buckley - 7 - As Noone.

CMS - 6 - Bit off colour at the minute.

Vincente - 7 - 25 minutes of class. Very impressed.
Barnes - 6 - Good pen, didn't do a lot else.
Lua Lua - 6 - A couple of good runs.

Casper 6 - nervous and flapped in first half, made a couple of decent saves

Calde 8 - got forward well
Cook 7.5 - considering he was chucked in, grew in confidence as game went on
Greer 8 - very composed
Vincelot 7 - good game at left back, couldn't prevent 2nd goal

Bridcutt 8 - helped boss midfield 2nd Half
Buckley 8 - only player looking capable of opening it up for us in first half - going to be some player
Navarro 7 - thought he played well in general
Sparrow 6.5 - got himself in a couple of good positions, off pace in first half, much better 2nd
Noooooneeeyy 8 - caused a lot of problems for Liverpool

CMS 6 - ran his socks, 10/10 for effort off but was again well shackled (quite funny when Reina dummied him)

Subs:

Vicente 9 - WHAT a player
Lua Lua 7 - needed more game time but won couple of free kicks in good positions
Barnes 7 - superbly taken pen and played his part when he came on.
