Kuipers 6 - one poor push out from a free kick and one magnificent save. otherwise nothing to do.
Whing 6 - I reckon he'd backed himself to score today, the way he was flying around the opposition's penalty area.
Elphick 7 - did nothing wrong, but had little asked of him
Butters 8 - he was always in the right place at the right time and he scored. He'd be in the middle of the back four every week if I picked the team. Richards 5 - The one player who was really disappointing. Won't be happy with his own performance.
Robinson 5 - some weeks he's great, but this week he was well off it.
Thomson 7 - quieter than O'C, and misplaced less passes than him too.
El Abd 6 - Not my favourite player, but did ok out of position.
Cox 7 - good first half, and created plenty.
Forster 7 - class
Murray 8 - if he carries on like this, people are going to start comparing him to THE greats.

Murray

Might DW's late withdrawal of Murray' not have been motivated by the wish to ensure that Murray got a special round of (deserved) applause in his first game at Withdean? If so, it was a shrewd, rather than a pointless, move by DW.

.

You really do dislike him dont you. Kuipers probably got a 7 from me. Kept a clean sheet and to say that save he made in the first half was just "for the fans" is an utter joke.

Kuipers - 5 - Few mistakes, first clean sheet for 6 weeks
Richards - 5 - Bit dodgy control at times

Butters - 6 - Great come back
Whing - 6 - Sound
Cox - 7 - Much improved, great ball for Murray's second
Thomson - 7 - Dean who?
El-Abd - 5 - Probably better than having Mayo in midfield
Robinson - 5 - As bad as Martot ?
Murray - 8 - Awestriking
Forster - 8 - Metamorphic

:bla::bla::bla:

Your constant criticism of Michel is getting quite tiresome. You clearly have no idea of goalkeeping if you think that first save was just for the fans. He keeps a clean sheet making a couple of very good saves when Crewe scoring could have changed the match. His coming for crosses was also excellent, yet your blinkered mind remembers all the bad points. Kuipers could keep a clean sheet against Henry, Ronaldo and Torres and you'd still remember him putting a goal kick into touch.

Anyway my ratings

Kuipers 7 - decents saves when needed, excellent taking of crosses and corners today, could of poor moments but they don't outweigh the good that he did today.
Whing 6 - Thought he was quiet compared to recent games and didn't get as forward as I would have liked, but didn't do much wrong at the back.
Richards 6 - Poor distribution today, quite solid at the back.
Elphick 8 - Quality, made every tackle he went for.
Butters 7 - A goal for big Guy and steady at the back.
Robinson 6 - Still drifts in and out, but does give the full back something to worry about when he gets the ball down and runs
Thomson 7 - Very impressed, strong in the tackle, looks to break forward when he can too, better finishing and he might have had a goal.
El-Abd 7 - Solid, may not be the most skillful player ever but always gives it his all no matter where he's asked to play.
Cox 7 - Some good crosses, some nothing crosses, wish he'd use his left foot though.
Forster 7 - Captains performance, lead the line well, hungry for the ball, encouraging other players.
Murray 9 - Quality, two very different goals, always in the box when the cross came in, didn't give his marker a moments rest all game.

Kuipers 7 superb one handed save in the opening 10 mins, a couple of mistakes but nothing major

Whing 7 good solid game
Elphick 7 looks much more confident and assured when Butts is alongside him.
Butters 8 great game and contributed to the good defence today
Richards 6 a bit of a shaky start but then settled down and had a good game

Robinson 6 got some good crosses in
Thomson 8 I like him more and more. Good midfielder
El-Abd 7 prefer him in midfield to defence and did some good passes
Cox 7 has started running at players again which I love to see

Murray 9 What a find this lad is. He can lay it off, flick on with his head, turn and volley, and score goals. Definitely MOM today.
Forster 8 He ran for everything today and looked like a younger player. He and Murray are already showing signs of a good partnership.

The save by FDM that I am talking about was the one that was about 3ft off of the ground to his right that he dived and pushed away, in the first half. That is the perfect height for a keeper and it looks spectaular for the fans, but it is the kind of save a goalkeeper likes to make and is expected to make, rather than one that is 1ft from the ground or up in the top corner.

Even if it was a save for the cameras/fans, who cares? He did his job of stopping the ball going into the net, so why nitpick about how he did it?

Honestly, we win 3-0 and people still have to find something to complain about.

It was also about 3ft to his right hand side. Who cares if it was at the right HEIGHT. Is the fact it was heading right for the corner of the net not enough for you? Are goalkeepers only allowed to make "good saves" if they're not only in the corner but extremely low or high? Ridiculous argument.

Well said. Although he played quite well, that mistake he made where he pushed that ball that was rolling at a leisurly pace straight to the attacker who somehow managed to miss it, was atrocious.

Take a clean sheet though
