Interesting to look back at the team here v Cardiff away, which arguably was our best away performance of the season. On paper the team v west ham looks stronger. Thoughts ?

Early part of the season before we got sussed by other teams, agreed was most definitely our finest performance away from home.

1. Think we had a bit of a surprise element at that stage - that go worked out by about October.

2. Think that was a good day at the office - yesterday was a particularloy bad day at the office.

3. Some good players in there who will be part of our promotion push next season but also some players who haven't proved to be able to do it consistently enough and will probably need to be chopped.

Looks more "negative" as well to me. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't.

Bad day at the office yesterday. Goalie howler and blown away in first 10 minutes. Game over.

Learn the lessons and move on. We bounced back well from Liverpool and we will bounce back again on Tuesday, I am sure of it.

1. If our system got worked out by October, then please tell how our results after December were better than before December?
Fwiw we ran out of steam last season against the top sides (I know we had already won the league) but my theory is that our cup runs haven't done us a lot of good apart from bringing in financial reward. Posters have already commented on how slow our players looked recently but could that also be an exhaustion built up over the season with the extra cup games?

IMHO we have changed our style slightly since the turn of the year. We are a bit more direct at times and we have been prepared to hoof the ball away. I know I'm looking back with prejudice but I'm sure I remember players trying to bring the ball down in our box then look for a quick one two rather than hacking it clear like we have started doing. We've also been prepared to hit a few more long balls to Vokes and trying to get CMS in behind the defence.

I grant you it's not been a huge change bit it has changed the pace at which we play - as the West Ham game home game showed our earlier refusal to try to turn a defence round because it often measna loose pass that gets cut out or runs through to their keeper was making things hard for us as teams learned to pack us out then come at us when they could.

Not a tactical overhaul but to my mind the reason things picked up massively after Christmas.

Very good thread. It shows that the players from League 1 can do it but just not consistently. I think also we are now simply struggling to get a consistent game plan for away games and players have lost confidence. We need to be able to attract an experienced competant level headed Premiership/Championship player for next season who others can look up to and gain from.
