A rational response to childish namecalling. QUOTE]

Are you on a wind-up? Read the thread from the top and see who made the first insult:wozza:

Yeah, you're right. I don't really understand what he means. To be honest, what I said was pretty wanky actually TCB. As much as I disagree with you on almost everyone Albion-based I'm not really in a position to judge your character, so consider this a retraction/apology.

Its a game of opinions, like.

Elphick and El Abd are what they are, always have been and always will be. Players who will get stuck in and put their bodies on the line, and 4 times out of 5 that is good enough and will attract a mark of 6/10 on threads like these. However, both have proven time and time again they will make goal-costing decisions. To have a go at me for pointing out what is a FACT is pathetic.

Ah, the messagebord "fact"

"Elphick and El Abd are what they are, always have been and always will be."

Not a fact.

"and 4 times out of 5 that is good enough and will attract a mark of 6/10 on threads like these."

Without data support how you arose at that 4 out of 5 figure I can't accept it as a fact, since I'm assuming it's an estimate based on your opinion.

The markings on these threads, as has been covered many times is subjective, i.e. all about opinion. Your 6/10 is different to other peoples'. So, again I have to say 'no fact'.

"However, both have proven time and time again they will make goal-costing decisions."

Proven that they have made goal costing decisions? How? Where? Often the mistakes aren't event decisions they are impulsive reactions. And they will often combine with other factors to cost a goal (keeper going to ground too easily, fellow defenders pushing out too soon or being too slow to get back, etc).

There are no facts.

The core of this argument is that you each have different interpretations of what warrants a 6/10.

I didn't call you a spastic. Until tonight you haven't registered on my radar as a potential member of the nsc dribbling society, which is basically owned by NF9 and Ninja Elephant, hence my surprise at what I consider a totally outrageous criticism that "rivals" those of the above. By all means have a go on a night where I'm laying into someone and you don't agree, but after a clean sheet and higher than average marks I really don't see where you're coming from.

See my post at the top of this page mate.

As for the spastic thing, I wasn't sure you did, I was just making a light-hearted remark in response to NE.

My ratings for what they were worth:

Brezovan 8.5 - Great double save, good pen save and even better follow up to touch it onto the bar.
Calderon 7 - Average by his standards
Painter 7 - Awful first 10-15 mins, but then went on a great run and looked assured rest of the game
Elphick 7 - Solid - why was he after the ref at the end of the game?
El Abd 7.5 - Solid and some really important challenges
Carole 7 - I was expecting him to be awful, and he did actually look dangerous on a few occasions.
Dicker 6 - Off game for him
Navarro 6 - STUPID tackle and thought he was a goner
Crofts 7.5 - I thought he was the driving force today in midfield, involved in most of our better moments
Bennett 8 - The goal was fantastic, arrowed right towards us and knew it was in as it left his foot, was dangerous most of the game
Murray 7 - Battled hard and did well for the OG to close down the keeper

Gregan basher 10 - Absolute quality!!!

Brezovan 8: Looked good on crosses, and two superb FDM stylee double saves, one in each half (including the pen)
Calderon 7: Rampaged down the right flank at times, some excellent interventions.
Elphick 6: Solid, good at putting it into row Z when necessary, won a lot in the air. Harshly conceded pen.
El-Abd 7: One mazy run towards the end nearly gave us a third goal, other than that worked hard and kept the Oldham strikers quiet.
Painter 7: Defends when he has to, getting more and more into the opposition half.
Carole 6;Peripheral at times, but hugged the touchline and made the second goal.
Crofts 6: Quietly effective, but did not support Murray as much as he usually does.
Navarro 7: Broke up play well, got his usual booking for a cynical (but necessary) foul.
Dicker 6: A few misplaced passes, but as usual looks like a gazelle in a herd of wildebeeste in terms of grace and style.
Bennett 8: Great goal, terrified the defenders thereafter.
Murray 7: Worked his socks off, his chasing of a lost cause helped create the second goal.

Brezovan: Clean sheet and stopped a pen, what more can a keeper do? I still think he has some big mistakes in him but today perfect 10
Calderon: One of my favourite players, but not such a good day 6
Elphick: A steady head it, kick it centre half performance 7
El Abd: On the day probably our best defender excluding the keeper 8
Painter: As usual steady but not very adventurous 6
Carole: He was being told to keep wide by the bench and did that. Received quite a lot of the ball and wasted too much, but made a contribution to the second goal and the win 6
Navarro: Did his job, one really silly foul, and although he broke up Oldhams play his distribution was mixed 6
Dicker: A poor game from my favourite player 4
Crofts: Poor first half when we were under the cosh, but a much better second half 6
Bennett: Usual unselfish game, doing a lot of good defensive work. His wonderful goal completely changed the game. Deserved man of the match but the keeper kept a clean sheet and saved a pen. 8
Murray: In the one up front role, I think he sometimes tries to do do too much instead of concentrating on keeping possession for the team. However, he worked really hard and kept both centre backs busy. 7
Sean Gregan: I understand that he is a fat w..k.r, but if you were on the left side today you will already know. 0

There's a difference between costing us goals and making decisions that cost us goals.

That as maybe but over all else there is one really true, in the face fact. Neither of them are good enough for a promotion side and in the future a Championship side. They are both fully committed and are good "professionals" but they both lack ability to go further. Plain and simple.

Its time to move on from mediocrity. Whing may have been player of the season last year but Calderon has more ability in his big toes than Whing in his entire body. Come the summer I'm sure that new additions will come in for the defence.

Brezovan 7 - only really called into action twice, but did very well with both.

Brezovan 7

Saves a penalty, makes what the commentators called one of the best saves they have EVER seen, kept a clean sheet and generally sounded like he commanded his box....and only gets a 7? Seems a bit one-eyed, but we'll see as more balanced reviewers leave their thoughts.

That as maybe but over all else there is one really true, in the face fact. Neither of them are good enough for a promotion side and in the future a Championship side.

Again, that is not a fact. That is your opinion/prediction.

Back in October El Abd and Virgo were bringing the team down and were the ruination of us. Back in November/December people were saying Navarro had no place in the team.

El Abd became one of our best defenders before his injury, Virgo became an integral part of a strong defensive unit, and Navarro is starting to get respect and dare I say it admiration from the fans.

I mention this because it shows the difference a couple of months can make, meaning any comment about how a player will be in the future is not a "fact" it is a guess.

I mention it because Virgo shows the difference a stead line up and different personnel alongside you can make a difference.

I mention it because Navarro shows how fans don't always appreciate what a manger has asked a player to provide and how a different formation can show a player's worth.

Elphick and El Abd could very well be used in a promotion/championship side, and will look good in the right system, with the right line up. To say they can't and never will be able to is an opinion and a prediction/guess, not a fact.

Brezovan: 9. Two UNBELIEVABLE double saves, one ivolving the penalty. Looses 1 mark for his kicking.
Painter: 7. Good at this level, too slow to be a Championship player. Any quick winger will eat him for dinner.
Elphick: 7. Solid.
El Abd: 7. As above.
Calderon: 6. Found out in the first half, seemed slow on the turn and easily beatable.
Bennett: 8. Class goal, always dangerous from attack, best outfield player.
Navarro: 5. Gave the ball away a lot, didn't really DO anything. Boring to watch.
Dicker: 5.5. Terrible, terrible first half, picked up in the second. Only created a few things, just an off day.
Crofts: 5. Genuinly didn't notice him playing.
Carole: 6. He was OKAY, but didn't really excite me. He'll be gone by next season for sure. Again.
Murray: 6. Didn't create anything for himself. SOOOOOO easily nudged over/off the ball!

Virgo: 5. Not on long enough.
Hart: 5. As above.

Gus Poyet: 10. If I was gay......

Tacco: 10. Seems to be a bit forgotten/not appreciated on here, but he has had a HUGE part to play in our recent success. Really brilliant work.

Brezovan 8 - should be in one or two of the nationals' team of the week. Two stunning saves followed by the penalty save
Calderon 6 - solid defensively and still had time to push us up the pitch
Painter 6 - becoming more adventurous as he gains match fitness. Unfussy with good positional sense
Elphick 6 - caught out a couple of times but a solid performance. Would like to see his skill level in the air matched by that on the ground
El Abd 6 - a revelation. Always a good talker and good positioning (if sometimes gets turned because he lacks pace) but seems to be adding new determination and skill going forward
Navarro 5 - spoiled a solid enough display with a positively Virgo-esque tackle that could have seen him sent off but possibly the best of an off-the-boil midfield trio
Dicker 5 - flatters to deceive sometimes and today was one of less substance than style
Crofts 5 - industrious but slower to get forward in support than Murray's endeavour deserved
Carole 6 - kept wide and kept working. Many will have been disappointed at his positive contribution (certainly listening to many around me who were slagging him off). Wonder if he will be credited with an "assist" for the second goal?
Bennett 7 - good defensively. Good from set pieces. Stunning goal
Murray 6 - never stopped running right into injury time with limited support. Heard a couple of people urging him to hold it up but with little coming towards him in support from midfield that was a tall order

Surprised that Oldham offered less than I had expected

Under Your Skin.
Brezovan 9: Brilliant double save. The peno wasn't placed well but it was hit with a lot of power. Great save. Would have been MOM if he had more to do.

Calderon 7: Good game against a poor Oldham side.

Elphick 7: Solid. Would be 8 but gave away a peno.

El-Abd 8: Solid, Been brilliant since Poyet took over.

Painter 7: Normal Painter display.

Carole 7: Poyet obviosuly told him that he would be out if he didn't have a good game. Brilliant today.

Crofts 6: effective.

Navarro 7: Did well, would of had a goal if it wasn't for a deflection.

Dicker 4: Did he realise we were wearing our away kit and NOT blue and white?

Bennett 9: MOM What a goal, scared the full backs all day. Amazing

Murray 6: Hard working, Goes down too easily though.

Funny that, I'm not having a go or anything but he's been up against a few fast wingers already..Snodgrass at Leeds for example.
