Hmm hard as it was game of two halves.

Henderson - 7 - Did pretty well.

Whing - 5 first half, 8 Second - As a full back he wasn't given any time on the ball to find a good pass. Second half at center back he was quality.

Lynch - 6 - He did okay.

Butters - 8 - One everything in the air, kept pushing the backline up the pitch. An experienced head when we really really needed one.

Rents - 5 first half, 7 second - Poor first half with poor passing (under pressure). Right back second half, much tider, and sent in the free kick for the equaliser.

Fraser - 5 first half, 7 second - Over run 1st half (in center mid with jake out wide). Much better second half (often on the right) running everywhere.

Hammond - 6 first half, 7.5 second - over run 1st half. Much much much better alongside Carpenter in the 2nd. Much more influential on the game.

Mayo - 7 - Solid game. It was deffinatly a game in which the senior pro's shined.

Bowditch - 5 - Ineffective but not back to full fitness so will let him off. Looked a threat at times but never delivered.

Revell - 5 first half, 7 second. Could maybe have helped support the midfield more 1st half, lots more running 2nd.

Robinson - 5 - Never really got the chance to impress. Worked hard for little reward.

--

Carpenter - 8 - Superb. His introduction into midfield won us a point. Suddenly we were winning tackles and headers. Free'd up Hammond to get forward more.

Gatting - 7.5 - Held up the ball very well. Used his strength well to battle and scare defenders. Good shot.

Can I direct you to Rule 4 (c) of NSC.

Carpenter is past it and therefore must always be referred to it as such.

Gatting is never going to make it as this level, and should go out on loan to Bognor Regis Town.

You cannot break the rules, irrespective of how well they actually play. Maximum marks for each are therefore limited to 4.

We were overrun in the first half.
Sat back too much and let them run at us.
Their Chris Taylor did some dazzling runs and we were lucky to go in 0-1. One shot by Taylor hit the inside of the post and rolled along the line.
Lynch looked out of sorts mis-cueing several headers whilst Tank got his barnet squarely under the ball.
Bold decision by Wilkins to change it round at half time but absolutely right.
So a nine to the manager and..
Henderson. 6. Not his most confident display.
Whing. 8. Did a good job changing roles in a reorganised second half defence.
Lynch. 5. Not comfortable.
Butters. 8. Great in the air, a few fumbles on the deck.
Rents. 7. Coped with the reorganisation well. Wasn't phased.
Mayo. 7. Worked his socks off. Solid.
Fraser. 7. Full of running. A few misplaced passes but ran at them in the second half.
Bowditch. 6. A disappointing return. Didn't realy get into the game but showed his potential to run at the opposition when fully fit.
Hammond. 7. Took the goal well. Didn't panic and netted from an awkward position.
Carpenter. 7. We looked better in the second half. He has to take some of the credit.
Robinson. 6. Never really got into this one. Seemed a bit isolated. Did get the ball in the net though.
Revell. 7. His usual tireless display. Won some useful balls in the air.
Gatting. 7. One great shot that could have won us the game. Is he quick enough to lead the line?

We won the second half although it could have gone either way up to the end.
Our goal line had a bit of a charmed life.
Good fighting display and Wilkins is right to be pleased.
The reaction of the players and the Albion end at the final whistle showed it meant something to the team.

This is the main point from yesterday's game. A bold decision to reshuffle and I assume a rocket up the arse as we were being out thought and out fought in a ll departments in the first half.

Second half was a different team. Considering out two best players were missing I think it was a great result, and again showed great character.

As Turkey says, it was indeed a game of two halves.
First half our midfiled was utterly ineffective which put huge pressure on the back four and we did well to go in only one down

Henderson - 5 Will not come off his line - but his distribution was mostly sound - bit wobbly

Whing - 6 first half, 8 Second - looked comfortable at center back second-half - tough 1st half with no midfield support

Lynch - 5 Average got injurred in 1st half h/t subbed.

Butters - 8 MOM - a rock in our defence - won everything in the air.

Rents - 5 first half, 7 second - struggled with no midfield support 1st half - 2nd half Chippy or Hammond were there for him - his cross made our goal.

Fraser - 4 first half, 5 second - Over run 1st half (in center mid) and looked completely lost / out of depth - it was his wayward square pass in the 1st half that almost led to their 2nd goal (hit the post and rolled back across the goal mouth).

Hammond - 6 first half, 7 second - introduction of Chippy freed him up to get forward 2nd half.

Mayo - 4.5 Poor passing both in midfield 1st half and at LB 2nd half - not a good game for him today.

Bowditch - 5 Quiet game and clearly not match-fit yet, looked knackered at the end. Need him firing on all 4 cylinders over Xmas.

Revell - 6 Steady game

Robinson - 5 Huffed and puffed but was not with-it for some reason. Ball boy won't forget him.

--

Carpenter - 7 Played a holding role in front of the back four which gave Hammaond some licence - settled the midfield and we looked much more balanced with his introduction.

Gatting - 7 Had two good chanced to win it for us late on

Wendy - 8 Made a major switch at half time (Lynch injured) but gave us the balance we needed to compete in midfield

last 20 mins was exciting end to end football - could have been 4-4 at the finish

Good value for money at £2 adults £1 for kids - six of us seated in at stand with a roof for under a tenner - beat that Withdean

I totaly agree with Shropshire Seagull about Mayo.I think it was you who wasn't watching the game. Our midfield was ripped apart in the first half. They didn't exist.Funny how Chippy came on and Mayo was dropped back into defence that we actually looked a much better team and scored.Hammond wasn't shackled in the second half as Chippy done the tackling

Henderson - 6 Not his best game but good distribution as ever.

Whing - 6.5 Adapted to the second-half rejig excellently

Lynch - 5 Another hesitant effort

Butters - 7 Rock-like experience and showed he could move a bit!

Rents - 5.5 Under pressure a lot

Fraser - 5 Showed his inexperience

Hammond - 7 Looked confident going forward, should have got a brace like last week.

Mayo - 7 Dug in well and was one of our few functioning players in the first half

Bowditch - 6 Some nice runs but ironically run out of steam in the second half just as the team itself was reviving. Poor decision on that scoring pass for Robinson.

Revell - 7 Terrific effort and workrate, will be disappointed not to have scored from his two decent chances.

Robinson - 5 An off-day when everything bounced off his shins again, like a year ago.

Carpenter - 7 Our best player alongside Butters. He will be needed for these winter battles.

Gatting - 7 His best game in a Brighton shirt, showed decent movement and control

You never knock Mayo L1.Where was our midfield then in the first half?

Because it was overrun and passing away poorly what possession it had - but Mayo I thought was the one of the few not surrendering possession cheaply.

I have criticised Mayo but just not recently as I think he's doing a good job for us at the mo. That's why Wikins selects him more consistently than McGhee did.

I didn't go to the game. I merely commented on the difference in ratings.

Mayo was playing the defensive role. Fraser and Bowditch did nothing in the first half IMHO to try and stop Oldham attacking. Hammond and Mayo were overrun as we sat back. Mayo also defended well in the second half at left back as Rents went to right back to try and match the pace of the Oldham attack down that side.

All credit to Wilkins for seeing it wasnt working and changing it all about.

My MOTM was Rents who snuffed out the Oldham threat and set up another goal. Butters looked good on his return, and Chippy also now looks fit and healthy!
