Jason Steele 7 - other than a minor fuckup, he did well and saved some pens. All you can ask for really.
Tariq Lamptey 7 - not sure he got too much done but he looked lively and caused problems with his movement. Good first half, not too involved in the other.
Lewis Dunk 7 - did what he should. Solid.
Levi Colwill 6 - looked a little wonky in a few situations but overall ok performance
Moises Caicedo 5 - not bad exactly but toothless as left-back in the first half and just a bit pointless when there was no midfield battle to win in the second
Pascal Gross 4 - not his day, some missed passes and a bunch of not particularly good set pieces
Billy Gilmour 5 - thought he did ok without standing out in any direction
Adam Lallana 6 - had a decent game and contributed more than the other midfielders in chance creation
Solly March 7 - constant threat. Yes, he missed a good chance (which he created himself) but at least he managed to create one which can not be said for everyone. Involved in most of the positive things.
Deniz Undav 5 - thought his movement was good but didn't get much of the ball and when he did, control was poor
Julio Enciso 3 - looked like he had not played that many games away against Charlton on a cold Wednesday night

Subs
Kaoru Mitoma 2 - awful. The stats say: 0 out of 4 dribbles succeeded, 0 out of 5 duels won, possession lost 12 times... all in 45 minutes. Had a lot of space out there but just couldn't get anything right.
Pervis Estupinan 5 - a couple of quite good passes but didn't change the game state much
Leandro Trossard 4 - just not very good. If he had spent another 25 min on the pitch he'd probably have a Mitoma rating
Evan Ferguson - played too little to get a rating... which is probably good for him. Good penalty though.

Annoyingly, after waiting a month for the Qatari Death Bauble to pass us by, I couldn’t follow this one at all, so accept your player ratings without argument.

I feel it’s a bit of a reality check to any dreams of European football. I think we’ve a very good first team, but I’m not convinced we’ve yet the strength in depth for sustained battle on multiple fronts.

The stats on Mitoma are wrong then. Early in his half he beat the full back and got into the box but couldn't find the right pass/cross. I accept he had a poor game though.
Felt sorry for Undav as we failed to create any chances for him to finish.
Hopefully the game will be a reality check for the world cup players. No easy games...

The performance of Trossard was a thing of wonder, incredible. Got absolutely nothing right and just seemed to get in the way.

I was obviously at a different game. We were shocking against a team struggling in League1 and who actually played like a National League team (I’ll be surprised if they aren’t relegated). I said to D7jr after 10mins the team were playing like they were arrogant as if they were going to win without putting in effort. Only player with credit is Steele, clean sheet and two penalty saves. Two players were worse than the rest - Encisco needs to go on loan - probably at L1/L2 level, Undav doesn’t have the first touch to play at our level. So for me Steele 8, the rest 4 (and I’m being generous)

If half of our team get 6s and 7s we win against Charlton. That was a rotter but was, essentially, a pre season friendly.

Think I would take every one down a point - the opposition were poor and could not exploit their weakness. Would agree that Lamptey and March (despite poor finishing) looked to be the best two players . Dunk was very good defensively but far too many times he had the ball at his feet and did not pass it forward quickly which is best way to breakdown teams like Charlton last night. Gross insisting on taking all the set pieces is also a problem. Thought Ferguson looked ok, difficult to get into a game like that but kept call for the ball , pointing where he wanted and the delivery was not there. But this was a team which hasn't learnt - we still doing the let's slowly pass it into the net rather than quick football.

I'm not sure how the stats are recorded, but there were at least 3 times Mitoma dribbled at a player, the player got a foot to it, it then ricocheted back to Mitoma who was then past them.

Given the performance and result I can't see anyone over 5, several at 3.

It was the perfect time to do it though.

theyre out doing shooting/penalty practice in the rain today. . . .I just saw a few on Shoreham airfield and one in the river

False. It was an important, competitive game which should have given us a real chance at playing a Quarter-Final. It was a bitterly disappointing result.

Agree with a lot of this other than….

Dunk - 4 - shocking, either underhit or over hit every pass.
Colwill - 5 - better than Dunk last night, but not better than Dunk, Webster or Veltman ordinarily.
Mitoma - certainly no worse than Trossard so - 4
