BV - 6 - didnā€™t have a ton to do, but made a mess of their goal. His kicking was a bit suspect, at times. Claimed a couple of crosses under pressure too.

JV - 7.5 - struggled first 15, but once he got a grip of their left flank, he was imperious defensively. Struggled, as he often does, going forward and really negates the RWer offensively, but he did have one really positive piece of attacking play setting Minteh free.

JPHV - 7 - very decent. A couple of questionable balls aside, was solid in possession.

Igor - 6.5 - very good on the ball, but got pulled out of position for their goal.

Estupinan - 6 - much better second half when he was allowed to attack, but struggled first half and for their goal.

Baleba 8.5 - best player on the pitch and our key player.

Ayari - 8 - brilliant second half, okay first half.

Gruda - 6 - thereā€™s serious talent there, but he ran up blind alleys too often. A play maker rather than an inverted forward, he often comes into the space of others, and he desperately needs a RB who can support him offensively. Heā€™ll become devastating in time though.

Adingra - 4 - Iā€™m being generous. Missed a golden chance and looked so far off it throughout. Iā€™d have taken him off rather than Gruda. I think he needs a loan personally.

MOR - 6 - Iā€™m not quite sure why his role was changed but he struggled in it. Nearly had an assist for Adingraā€™s golden opportunity. Struggled to press effectively and link play though.

JP - 7.5 - struggled at times to link play, but worked really hard and took the penalty well. I wish heā€™d stay central though.

Subs

Minteh - 6.5 - nearly. Worked hard defensively, nearly scored / assisted. Offered a counter threat. Strangest yellow Iā€™ve seen.

Mitoma - 6 - shouldā€™ve been on earlier. Didnā€™t actually play that well, but had a couple of good runs and scared them.

Webster - 7.5 - really very good when he came on.

Georgino - 7 - offered more balance than MOR, without ever really threatening. A couple of excellent runs to win free kicks.

Ruttner - 5 - much worse than his twin.

BV - 5 - has to do better with the goal.

JV - 9 - great tackling. Great dark arts. Great positionally. We can defend as a team with him. Class play for Mintehs chance.

JPHV - 6 - played well but has to come across for their goal.

Igor - 6

Estupinan - 5

Baleba 8 - beast at times. At others he doesnā€™t track back quickly. That shot!

Ayari - 7 - good second half

Gruda - 6

Adingra - 5 - fluffed chance.

MOR - 6 - good corner. Good assist. Not sure of his role in the formation at the moment.

JP - 9 - won and converted the penalty. He was the difference. Worked hard. Make him captain all the time!?

Subs

Minteh - 6 - had to shoot or cross. Did neither. Seems so clumsy on the ball and gave them a corner. His pace helped a lot though.

Mitoma - 6

Webster - 8 - was fantastic. Rare to see!

Georgino - 7 - helped to push them back.

Thatā€™s generous for Bart. It was a gamechanging balls up. What is he paid for if not to keep those out?

He definitely has games where he has the Steeleā€™s about him but, whilst I think he shouldā€™ve done better, he was left totally exposed and Iā€™d spread the blame for their goal rather than putting it all on his shoulders.
Yep. Yet another goal/chance from the enormous gap behind Pervis. As was the early one Bart saved

Yes and no. Part of the issue with the 4-1-0-0-0-0-4-1 system we play is that it means Baleba has to cover an incredible amount of space all on his own.

In that one instance, and it got sorted second half, incidentally by Ayari dropping deeper and Eatupinan actually pushing further forward, the mistake was actually Igorā€™s, who got pulled out of position into Estupinanā€™s zone, but JPVH and Veltman didnā€™t read the play well enough to sweep behind, nor was Baleba close enough to affect the play when both of them got sucked in. And because the left sided 10 (Ayari) was so high, there was no natural cover once Igor and Estupinan were pulled into the same zone. But weā€™ve seen this all season - itā€™s so easy for teams to counter against us when they play narrow, because as soon as they win the ball, it often only takes one pass to set someone in behind.

I know I keep harping on about this, and I know Estupinan isnā€™t having his best season having to play this multifaceted full back role, but so many of our issues are tactical, and thatā€™s a managerial issue. Their goal yesterday was just another example to add to the mounting collection against this 4-1-0-0-0-0-4-1 system.

You're all being generous with Estupinan. Deserved no more than a 4. Not sure what's happened to him this season.

Another shout out to Fab for getting the message to Bart - via Ayari - to kick long rather than fanny around at the back just 60s before he did just that in the leadup to the pen. Good reading of the game (or lucky) šŸ‘
