Arsenal winger Robert Pires has denied diving to earn his side a penalty in Saturday's draw with Portsmouth.

Pires tumbled to the ground after making slight contact with Dejan Stefanovic's leg in the Pompey area and Thierry Henry stepped up to convert the resulting spot-kick.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp criticised referee Alan for his decision, but Pires is adamant he was innocent of any wrong-doing.

The French international spoke to Stefanovic when he swapped shirts with the defender at the end of the game.

Pires said: "He asked me 'Was it a foul?' I said: 'I don't know. I am not the referee.'

"All I know is that there was contact with my foot and there was a noise.

"I think that is what the referee heard to give the penalty. I did not dive and I am not a cheat. That is not the way I play."

Winning penalties and free kicks are all part and parcel of the game now, zamora did it and Owen did it against Argentina and we didn't call them cheats. Getting players sent off is what gets up my nose.
