You have a better memory than me to remember that moment!
He did 'Width of A Circle', and that AMAZING version of 'Moonage Daydream' when Ronson had one arm in the air and played a solo for about 7 minutes, with the strobe flickering. He almost coulda been booed off for being so camp back then, and people were shouting 'sailor' and coowee at him at the start. The music was just too good though.
I don't know about you - but I found the Groundhogs fairly dull and sedate after that, staring at their plimsouls doing depressed blues. More down to earth, with the flared jeans and canvas bumpers and t-shirts - but visually a come-down.

At that time The Groundhogs were playing "Split" which used to drive my parents mad when I blasted it out at full volume - still it was a great album with "Cherry Red" & "Groundhog" as the fillers - Have to be in the right frame of mind to listen to it nowadays - definitely not mood music:D

The other Dome concert that I remember from that period was the Lindisfarne / Genesis / Van der Graaf Generator triple bill.

(corrected from my broken Bowie link!)

I didn't go to the Lind/Gen/VDG at the Dome, but saw Genesis third on the bill behind Lindisfarne and Rab Noakes. Genesis got shut down and banned by Top Rank for using magnesium flares when they were warned not to. Those bloody things, everyone used them, and it was a crap effect anyway! You could certainly feel the warmth off of them, when you were near the stage - and I expect the people on the balcony are still suffering the effects.

Imo, Genesis without Gabriel became the Phil Collins Band, and .... that's not a particularly good thing. I got to see them loads more times back then though, as support, and as headliners.
