Piglets On The Road

Probably the stupidest idea I've ever heard. A variation that might have the tiniest amount of traction would involve people pre-paying for pies and Piglets somehow turning up at the away turnstiles with them freshly cooked to give out to them that ordered one. The practicalities would likely render such a scheme unfeasible for many reasons, but it's the least stupid option. The whole suggestion smells of greedy pseudo-hippy capitalists who don't have the tiniest effing clue about football culture. Might as well have Grubbs inviting people catching a flight to the Dubai World Cup to pick up a double Malaysia at Pease Pottage to eat on the plane. Idiots.

Wierdly enough, as much as you consider it a stupid idea, your variation is even stupider.

So your post doesn't really add anything, does it? And as for your meltdown towards the end of your post...

i think its a cracking idea, except for the time. too early isn't it, you're either having pie for eleven's (not a bad idea) or cold lunch. though im sure it'll still be great cold.

im more interested to know if they consider doing a run up to London on a weekday lunch time, say to the Kings Cross food market

Sounds a daft idea in theory but in practice it might just work. There are plenty of people who follow this football club who will go out of their way to find a pub that sells Harveys. I can only assume those folk must have a "I know what I like and like what I know" mentality. Combine that with the quite ridiculous over the top adulation these pies get and they could shift a few.

Before someone jumps down my throat I have nothing against either Harveys or Piglets I just find it strange that if you are travelling the length and breadth of this planet why you'd want to consume something that you can get on your doorstep when ever you like.

For me it's too much faffing about. My idea of away travel is pick up my overly large Saturday paper, buy a coffee and get on a train to London. If, and only if, I fancy a bite to eat I'll buy something at Kings Cross, Euston or wherever. If I need an alcoholic livener there are plenty of outlets en route. The thought of pre-planning my journey to this extent is a non-starter, sorry.

This seems an incrediably complex idea for what is after all a pie! I can't see it being financially viable having to transport the food and keep it hot.

Sorry, missed the rule where every post has to add something. If you love Piglets Pies so much why don't you marry one?

Smells to me like a company believing its own hype and confusing a captive Amex audience for people who want to live off their produce 24/7. I liked the few Piglets Pies I've had and appreciate they are better than 97% of football food fare, but they seem to have confused popularity with addiction, and the responses to this thread suggest you are pretty much the only addict they have.

It works on the BHA BluesAway coach very well, but we get 30 or so pies, enough for one each basically, depending on the departure time depends on what we get, we've been having the breakfast pie recently which is great, although they do collect them the preceding day and they get cooked up early a.m, and kept in a heat box so they are actually hot when we eat.

It would work on coaches, I like the idea, stopping at services there and back can put another £15 on the budget for the day so £3 for a pie on the way up is great.

For people travelling by car I don't see it as viable, but for coaches it is.

Agree with this. At first sight of the title thread tho thought the great band were on tour again:

sounds to me like you've over thought this abit, its simply a matter of a business sounding out people if they'd like their product at a different time and place to how they normal obtain them. this is how business change and grew, float an idea see if people want it.

I've gotten to like the pies, particularly the chilli one but I'd still rather have a salad, a sandwich, some sushi, or indeed a pie from a waitrose at a service station.

Actually I've now realised Piglets can't possibly be stupid enough to have initiated this, and I'm pretty certain it was the OP (a Piglets Pie junkie) who came up with it and corralled the Piglets lady over it. Too polite to tell him to cock off she asked him for some evidence anyone might be interested, hence this thread re an idea that everyone (including Piglets) except the OP will place on a par with chocolate teapots. The aggression shown in the OP's responses to those criticising his dumb idea pretty much confirms this.

I can see why the idea has been muted.

In any business you try to sell either a new product to an existing customer or an existing product to a new customer, or up sell a current product to a current customer.

Once you've exhausted the first two, then you try the third, as may well be here.

I wish Jo all the best but I think this is a no go.

Would these pies self-heat or am I missing something here ?

Surely this retail venture is not about selling cold pies....

Not for me. A pie cooked 4-5 hours previously, and left to cool doesn't seem as appealing as hot food at the destination for lunch.
