There was an article in the paper not so long ago, stating it is the most profitable one in Sussex.

THE most profitable one in the country, if I recall correctly, was when there was a temporary speed limit on the A27 at Falmer in about 2001 or thereabouts, when the tunnel between University of Sussex and Falmer Station was being widened (among other things).

In nine months, it netted £750,000.

brighton, actually
has been a speed (sorry, 'safety' camera) at preston park for some years- an extra pole was added recently, north bound.

at least they have the decency to have the flashing warning light first, so you have SOME chance of slowing down.. lol

Ah, into an otherwise grey news day a little shaft of light appears.
Looks like the magistrate has got a sense of humour too, judging by the amount of the penalty:
"He was convicted on Tuesday at Brighton Magistrates' Court, fined £666 and had six points added to his licence"
Coincidence?

Not really. The Sentencing Guidelines say you should give a one third discount for a guilty plea at the first opportunity. The speed reported would be a fine band B (a weeks wages) but the offence carries a maximum of £1000 so taking off the third discount gives £666.
