One of my bugbears with football on TV is the woeful level of punditry as compared with other sports.

There is a laddish culture that flows from the dressing room on retirement and into the studio. There has only been one ex-player with a even half a brain on 25 years of Prem football - Gary Neville. The rest is tabloid media junk. If you want any insight you have to listen to the football journalists like Martin Samuel, Henry Winter, Oliver Holt or Guillem Balague. Listening to the likes of Shearer, Lawrenson, Jamie Redknapp, Michael Owen is soul-destroying - they are sloppy and they wing it.
Totally agree. I remember in the Euros England were playing Slovenia and Sheared said something along the lines of, "We don't know much about Slovenia". You would think, bearing in mind his very substantial salary, that he might have made some effort to find out about them and enlighten the license fee paying viewers who are paying said substantial salary. For Slovenia in the PL this season read Brighton and Huddersfield

You only have to watch the Sky show on Sundays where they all spout off to know that not even that is always correct. Once they drop below the bigger clubs in the Premier League, their knowledge often becomes very shaky and falls back on cliche. It's understandable really as it's very difficult to keep up with everything, so unless they've recently covered one of the lower ranking or EFL clubs, their knowledge of them will remain well below that of the teams' regular followers.

Why the outrage by so many? Most pundits always pick the newly-promoted for relegation. We've had being written off THREE times.

Even if teams like Burnley and Brighton stay up, they'll still be tipped to go down next year if the likes of Villa, Leeds and Wolves get promoted (three BIG clubs like Newcastle).

Don't forget MASSIVE :lolol:

Here's another lazy bullshit 'prediction' from this YouTube cockface:

Brighton and Huddersfield 'haven't made any massive signings and don't have Premier League history' so will go down. Newcastle's squad 'isn't good enough to stay up but they will stay up because they're a massive club'. Showed what a clueless prick he is without even realising.
