Shame to see Anyinsah released. Not one for us obviously, but I'd think he should find another League 1 club without too much problem.

Jeremie Aliadiere STILL available. Wasn't he good once?

For those of the school of thought we should go hard for experience there is plenty to get the juices flowing in that list.

For me, I want us to continue unearthing young, raw gems, supplemented by a bit of experience down the spine. Lee Carsley, Rory Fallon and Claude Davis would be immense signings.

Jesus! "Immense." Game of opinions isn't it. I wouldn't want any of those even as squad players.

I really liked him, and I would hazard a guess that he could make it in the Championship - he was strong, fast and had a good eye and a great mind on the pitch. If he could fit the passing style we have then i'd take him back.

These are the names that stood out for me.

Craig Fagan
Michael Brown
Nathan Ellington
Willo Flood
Antony Gardner
Bradley Johnson
Richard Hughes
Neil Kilkenny
Patrick Kisnorbo
Michael McIndoe

All pretty experienced at Championship level and could be decent additions to the squad.

Brown,Fagan & Kisnorbo would be great signings IMO in terms of solid Championship experience. I have a feeling though it is going to be another summer of stories where we cannot quite close deals on players due to not being able to compete with teams of the bigger budgets, still .....that did not stop us last season. I am Sure Poyet will surprise once again

Johnson would be a good bet were it not for the fact that we have quite a few good midfield players already. Factor in his wages, the reason why Leeds let him go. I would have thought the same is true of Ellington as Preston aren't interested. Anyway I trust in Gus.

I think McIndoe would be the pick of the bunch. Would give us great quality from wide areas. With him and Bennett in the same team we should create chances galore for the likes of Owen, Heskey, Defoe & Forlan or whoever else we sign upfront.

Why not?? Carsley would do the Kish role of last season perfectly, he has had a great career and whilst he's not the box to box midfielder he once was he can anchor and sit and offer a great deal of experience. Davis is just the sort of big strong impreious defender we're looking for, at 32 he's still got a lot of football in him. Rory Fallon is a proven international striker, a great player to have on the bench and bring on for his selfless running and hold up play when you're trying to hold onto a lead.

Lee Carsley was one of the most underrated Premiership players about five years ago. I don't see him making our current starting eleven in place of Bridcutt as a holding midfield player and he would be on a substantial wage to warm the bench most weeks.

At least this list gives us the opportunity to discuss realistic targets, rather than the hogwash rumours going round at present.

The list also highlights the predicament that many footballers find themselves in when out of contract. And as much as I want Murray to stay, I can understand his need to maximise his earnings, as a couple of poor seasons with a new club or us and he could be on that very list in two or three seasons time.
