One Step Beyond
As my car was running on fumes this morning, I popped into one of the local garages to fill up. Nothing unusual in that, but having put £30.00 petrol in the tank, I noticed that as I returned the gun to the pump another 1p was added to the total, despite having made sure that I was not holding the trigger.
Now I'm not usually one to make a big deal out of this, however I have casually mentioned it to staff at this garage on at least half a dozen occasions, but still the same thing happens.
Given the fat profits that petrol companies make, what riles me is if that it happens to 100 people, they make an extra £1.00. Multiply that by countless outlets up and down the country they are making huge amounts of money for selling absolutely nothing on a daily basis.
When I mentioned it at the counter, I was told "no, the pump only shows the total value that's been delivered to your tank" and "you must of have touched the trigger". Whatever happend to "the customer is always right"?
Anyway, the 1p was eventually deducted, but I still don't think my point sank in and it still has me wondering how many people let it go every day?
So NSC, am I right to make an issue of it each time it happens or should I just return to a quiet life and ignore it?
