My neighbours regularly use their two cars to travel very short distances i.e. they are often out and back in 5 mins. Why they f**k don't they walk every now and then? Needless to say they are both not as fit as they should be. Lazy bar stewards.

Outside my kids' school every morning we see a queue of cars, some of which have driven 250/300m. When people stop using their cars to drive ridiculously short distances, I think the price of fuel will have reached its natural level, it's clearly too cheap now.

I think we know. We had a brief taster with the Students and the University fees recently. Some of us remember 1981 and the riots that started in Toxteth and spread to other parts of the country. (to be fair they were probably weekly occurences in Toxteth but the media captured the events)
Some of us remember 1968...that was a pan-European problem though. Brought down the government in France..de Gaulle was out and dead in about 3 years.
Maggie's still alive and whining.

Someone on here said that if you can afford to drive a mile then petrol is to cheap. I tend to agree with this. Petrol is too cheap.

You can never make petrol too expensive for mothers obsessed with safety... just thank God the EEC banned bull-bars on new cars from 2002, the MP's at Westminster would never have had the guts to so that.

That is oh so true, they are also often badly parked. Whilst I can understand it when the weather is bad it doesn't rain every day. Mind you a lot of people I know think I'm mad to use the bus rather than drive to the station. I don;t mind the walk as it's good for me and using the bus is not only cheaper than using the car it also means I don't need to worry about parking. Granted I live in an area where public transport is quite good so I can't recommend this to everybody. Next year I'll use my car even less as I need to walk more for health reasons.

Expect price to be £1.36 soon

2.5% more vat 1p duty and a rise in crude in the next few days.

When that hits wheat, sugar, cotton, coffee and cocoa watch the inflation go to 5% reported actual about 9%

Fuel duty goes up again today  and VAT on Monday  meaning two more price rises in the next three days

This was just on news. Also in April we have another duty rise. People think its 1p, but its actually inflation plus 1p. As fuel duty is currently 59p, and the fact you have 20% VAT to add to the tax (!!!) the rise in April is going to be 5p per litre! Add to that the VAT, today's increase, the rising cost over the last month and a bit of extra profit from some greedy c*** and I suspect the £1.50 litre (£6.80 Gallon) is very close

That is down to the lazy bitches who drive to the school, considering the kids are supposed to come from a catchment area, they should all be able to walk..

I drive 70 miles to work every day (and 70 miles home) no way is it to cheap...

I am assuming those who think it is to cheap do not have cars??

With the current situation in the Middle East and Libya, prices are going to sky rocket (Oil $119 at the moment).

Have you already started to modify your behaviour (assuming you are a driver), if not what will the price of a litre have to reach before you do?

We are already discussing car-sharing at work, great in principle, but as we all pretty much work different hours it isn't exactly feasable.

Is there a point where you could no longer afford away games, or for some of you home games?

Time for Mr C to think about dropping fuel duty to give us a break I think. Although wont happen.

That's one of the most asinine things I've read on here. A lot more people are affected by higher petrol prices than mums on the school run. In fact if you think about it if all the school mums use their cars for is the school run, the occasional bit of shopping and the odd visit to the nail bar then petrol will have to be about £10 a litre before they even notice. The rest of us will be feeling the pinch long before that.

And I'm not some petrolhead, I walk to work and use public transport to visit clients. Virtually the only time I drive is at the weekend to visit elderly relatives.

My Mrs started car sharing 18 months ago when we realised how much she was spending on fuel for a 50 mile round commute. That saves c£20 a week.

I mainly do long distance driving (100 miles +) at weekends. I'd love to be able to curtail our use of the car and use public transport instead, but in general it's still significantly more expensive to do so than drive (certainly when theres two or more of us). We're coming down to Brighton this weekend to visit family, and even using a Network railcard it's costing us £58, compared to a driving cost of about £30 for the 230 mile round trip. The only reason we're using public transport is because the Mrs has been off seeing her parents (and therefore starting out in a different place) and to avoid the M25 rush hour traffic.

LDC are still flogging a railcard for all-day travel on the Southern nework, including up to Milton Keynes and over to Southampton, for £10, or they were at Xmas. Has to be bought at a TIC though, and dated. Only after 10 am M-F.

Cheers. I've had a look and as it doesn't stretch to Cambridge it's a bit more expensive than buying the direct tickets. Don't get me started on the vagueries of the rail pricing structure though!
