Petrol in a diesel car

My wife has just stuck £16 worth of unleaded in my diesel BMW




It was pretty empty to begin with, she DIDN'T turn the engine on as she realized her error before she filled the fucker up to the brim. Suggestions please? Cheapest quote I've had to sort it out is £180 from one of the mobile specialist companies. Cheers in advance

As long as you do not run the engine all will be fine, emty the tank and fill it with diesel, but DO NOT start the engine, no matter what any one says.

I've thought about syphoning the fuel out and sticking it in my wifes clio, but the fear off adding any diesel into her petrol engine scares me even more than than my current situation!

Diesel will not do your wifes car any good , it will smoke like f*** beleive me i`ve been there.

Top it up with diesel and take it for a decent spin. Might smoke a bit but oddly enough it's good at clearing deposits etc.

Apparently taxi Drivers do it prior to MOT's to clear the valves.

Mind you if it blows up don't blame me.

I've never heard of a Taxi driver putting petrol into his diesel before MOTs. Injector cleaner or stop smoke maybe. As she didn't start the engine just get the tank drained, fill up with diesel plus add an engine conditioner and that should do the trick. Keep topped up with diesel. I doubt that you will have any problems. As suggested in another post, in some cold countries people add a small amount of petrol to stop diesel from jelling but I would not advise this in Jolly old England.

Not so. Petrol into Diesel burns engine parts.

Some of them have a drain stop cock, or your can syphon it out if you don't have a particularly angled filler neck....I'd be looking through the manual or at least googling it. Its a job you can do yourself.

Edited to add just did a bit of googling, looks like if you take the back seats out you can get to the tank and do it yourself. Thats if you don't mind a bit of work. Alternatively there are a few advertised companies who'll come to you and sort it for a fee!

in general, the burning characteristics are completely different and petrol will explode violently in the cylinders, leading to cracked pistons, values and cylinder heads. in some cars, components such as seals with be perished by petrol (much less these days). diluted you'd get away with it.

As others have said DONT start the car, it needs to be drained and filled up with the correct fuel

Do not, start it. Drain it and refill. Cheaper in the long run.

This further proves my point that women should not be allowed to drive they do not have the intelligence.They should also not be eligible to vote as since they have received this right Left wing labour governments are winning elections and contributing to destroying this country.Women should also stay at home and look after the kids this would solve unemployment.

I did the same thing about 2 years ago with my Peugeot, only about a tenners worth, so thought I would be clever and fill to the brim with diesel and drove to my work unit which is on the site of a bus repair shop. As luck would have it one of their mechanics was in the car park, and I happened to mention the prattish thing I had done, but had been clever enough to fill up with diesel to thin out the petrol. I think he then made a terse statement which contained some reference to being a self abuser and said don’t touch it and I will deal with it in for you!!
He completely drained the fuel and flushed the whole system, explaining a whole list of potential problems that would result over time. All he wanted to charge me was 10quid for the fresh diesel he put in, so I know he was genuine, but I did give him a bloody good drink for hit trouble.
