He'll be better than David Platt...although that's not a difficult achievement since he was the lowest of the low.

Taylor returns to U21 role

Taylor had a successful spell in charge of the U21s in the 1990s
The Football Association has re-appointed Hull City boss Peter Taylor as England Under-21 manager.
After talks between the FA and Hull, it has been agreed Taylor will combine the roles although the deal will be reviewed at the end of the season.

"Being involved with England is always a great honour and I am delighted at being asked to take over the Under-21s again," Taylor told www.TheFA.com.

"I've no doubts that I can combine the job with managing Hull City."

Taylor was in charge of the Under-21s from August 1996 to July 1999 before being replaced by Howard Wilkinson, despite a record of 14 victories, six draws and three defeats from his 23 matches.

He took charge of the senior team for the friendly against Italy in November 2000 following Kevin Keegan's resignation and made David Beckham captain for the first time.

Hull chairman Adam Pearson said: "Peter's involvement with the FA brings great prestige to Hull City and we feel sure that is will be a successful arrangement for all parties.

"We are confident that Peter can undertake these additional England Under-21 fixtures and successfully manage Hull in the forthcoming season."

I remember Sammy Lee scoring for England in about 1980 against Greece. We won that match 3-0 away - and that was considred on 'OK' result. How times have changed. Mind you, even a year ago, we would have expected to beat Greece 3-0. Don't think so now.

Greece - European Champions.

Weird innit?

Will probably knock it on the head at Hull if it's not going well. If nothing else, Taylor knows when the going is too tough for him.

Ahh.

But do you remember the Sammy Lee chant:

"He's fat,
he's round,
he bounces on the ground
Sammy Lee, Sammy Lee!!"
