He has now done the full circle from Non League with Dartford to England manager back to non league. I often wonder what might have been as he got his first job at Dartford after I turned it down.

I have no bitterness towards Taylor whatsoever. But it's pretty obvious he left us because he didn't want a relegation on his CV, he thought he couldn't keep us up on the budget available and he was probably right, it would have taken a much better manager then him such as Steve Coppell to do that.

Peter Taylor is just not that amazing a manager... his job here was almost entirely a steering job, and he did it well, a bad manager can easily mess up a good squad.

To be honest I think he should have stayed with England U21s, he was good at that. Still he is a great appointment for a club like Stevenage.

I'm not ungrateful for what Taylor did in finishing off a promotion job Micky started, but it was a bit gutless to bale out just because he thought it was going to be tough in the Championship. Life is about challenges.

Which brings me on to this appointment. Forget the inevitable spin, this is a personal career disaster. The guy was as low as 10-1 to be the next England boss before McClaren was appointed last year, now he's non-league.

Taylor has quite an ego, and said in an unguarded moment that he honestly thought he would be a better full England manager than many of his rivals because the job was so different, and that if he was good at managing the Under-21s that was a far better CV than successful club management. I've got some sympathy for that point of view.

To go from the Championship to non-league in a month is truly bizarre. He should have had the confidence in himself to wait for a better job that would surely have arisen soon.

i dont read anything negative into the fact that its a non-league team. It seems that Taylor would rather get back in to the job as soon as, rather than wait around for "big" team. theres a lot of merit in that.

We'd all be heartbroken if our manager could take us up and then leave of course...except I'd settle for that even though I know there is NO CHANCE of it happening though.

I sometimes think Albion fans would have preferred Taylor to fail and then get the sack to keep the (now tarnished) Micky Adams Messiah legend alive, such is the bitterness of some to his leaving us after winning a Championship (by default OBVIOUSLY)

There is NO CHANCE of him taking us up and NO CHANCE of him ever leaving. The bloke has hung around the club for upwards of 20 years now! If he gets the sack he will probably be made Director Of Beverages or something equally as pointless and expensive and enable to contine to hang around for another 20 years.

Taylor did well while he was here and have no major complaints..but overall I dont really rate him.

He goes to a small well established set-up of players at a level wich suits him...league one or below........takes the team up and then gets offered a bigger job and cant handle it....How many times now..

He is just a cv builder and he will do it again and no doubt a championship side will fall for it Again!!

If I was a championship side or league 1 side with ont a very good squad I wouldnt touch him....give him a half difficult job..and he's screwed..

not suprised he has gone there

he is obviously on a fair few quid and he can't really fail, they are up there with a chance he will attract a few decent players to strenghen the squad and if that dont work he'll find a few more similar to he did at hull

the higher he goes up the more that shows as it shown in the past,he did all right for us yer but he's better at a lower level when he can use his name and someones money to attract people

He kept Hull and Palace in the Championship, they are both just about good enough to hang in there, so he's done ok hasn't he or were people expecting Hull and Palace to waltz through the league to the Premiership on probably in the lowest 5 or 6 budgets in the Championship?

He's managed teams in the Championship that have not been relegated for 4 seasons now is that really that shit??

I thought he had spent a bit of cash at Palace.

No expert I confess but I gathered he shifted the high wage earners and bought some very highly rated youth players. I seem to remember one of the palace fans on here being quite impressed with the youngsters he'd brought in. maybe he had a long term plan that orangeman was too impatient to see through?

he didnt go to selhurst to keep palace in the championship !

he failed at selhurst as he was suppose to take them up or at least challanging for the play off's

when you consider the jobs done at plymouth and colchester by holloway and williams he did shit and your not gonna tell me palace expect to finish below those 2

They may not expect to but I certainly won't be suprised if they do, even with Warnock in charge.

Meopham, Kent.
I'm amazed he's taken this job. Even taking the points made that he suits a job where they have the potential to go up, and he makes it happen, there are surely jobs like that around that he could have hung around for.

Seems to have dropped far further down the leagues than he had to.

Amazing for Stevenage. I think he's a very good manager. I liked him when he was here and even though all the 1-0 wins weren't the most exciting, it was all about results. I think he made a big mistake leaving us, with a decent manager throughout that following season I think we could have stayed up. However, at least he did it very soon after promotion and gave us plenty of time to appoint an excellent replacement. Oh..

Some very Bitter people on here when it comes to Taylor.

Class manager for Brighton and the signing of Jnr Lewis was the diference between play offs and Championship.
He said there is not enough of a budget to stay up and he was right, he left early and gave the board ample time to find a replacement but they failed, somehow that is seen as Taylors fault.
