I thought when he came into the England team in and around the 1986 World Cup, his arrival really took the England team forward, fine linking midfielder, looked really comfortable playing international football, which is something you cannot say about a lot of the England midfielders down the years.

Was one of those midfielders who had a great Indian summer, like Ray Wilkins.

Try watching that Maradona WONDER goal on youtube.com and not wanting to punch the part of the screen showing Peter 40 a day Reid trotting disinterestedly behind Maradona as he skins player after player. :nono:

there was a rumour around while he was playing that he was coming to the albion but failed a medical (knees) then went on to play for bolton? and get international caps.

we never found out if this was kosher or what?

great player:bowdown:

I thought that he was at Bolton when Mullery tried to sign him and he chose Everton instead of us didnt know it got as far as a medical.

I remember him playing for Bolton as a young player and he BOSSED the game - I think he was only about 20 at the time.

I saw him a few times after that, playing in better teams, and he never seemed to have that air of confidence. He was still a terrific player though.

True and I believe that is was on more than one occaision. We were very interested when he was at Bolton but he got injured first and then for some in explicable reason he decided to move along the East Lancs Road to Eveton.

To quality player yes. Manager, well, there have been worse.

Top midfielder, and could tackle HARD, in the same mould as Keane, Bryan Robson or Souness!

Would love to have a player of that quality at Brighton

:clap2:
