You'll probably find it's the same as English, a few years ago "half cast" would've been acceptable but is now almost as bad as the N word. Although mixed race means the same thing, the former has certain negative connotations, maybe this Spanish saying is along those lines and has rightly been changed for something less offensive.

Is the right answer .... in some cases it also has the connotation of being a whore as well as mixed race. It’s as bad as the N word.
