Paying for NSC?

Bozza mentioned on another thread that NSC is starting to incur costs due to hosting as it grows. This is only going to get worse I guess.

With this in mind I had an idea.

If at the start of every season Bozza mass mailed all members with a link to a Paypal 'Donations' button would you pitch in?

I'd definitely chuck a tenner in for a season's fun and games... With 5000 active members this could keep NSC going for years.

Thoughts?

I was always under the impression that NSC acctually MADE money from all the adverts and the Amazon link?

If it needed it I dont mind chucking in a few quid, not sure about 'fun and games' though

I think what is being said is it now costs more to host NSC than we gain in revenue.
That said it would seem that we'll be ok for the foreseeable future.
This month there was a shortfall of £17.91.

No not stirring at all.

Just read this from Bozza on another thread.

"Either that or they'll just increase the cost of our hosting, earning us no more revenue meaning the losses NSC has started to incur begins to accelerate."

if it is a problem, move to another service provider (or at least say you will to negotiate a lower price). at £20 shortfall, the current reserves would cover 300 months - 25 years.

and bsides, rather than paying, just make sure you click on the banner ads a few times a week and use the amazon link when making any purchases. much easier than fannying around with memberships, donations or such.

Fair enough.

a big ask perhpas to simply say 'move to another provider' - that probably would mean a whole shit load of work for Bozza to do.

Why not set up a vehicle that people could donate to vie Pen Pal or something and see how many people do.

I for one would happily chuck in £20 a year to enjoy this binfest.

Problem i guess with that is people who start putting money in will start demanding a say in who gets banned etc.

And then we find out that Timmy 'Shakespeare' or I Like Candles throw in £300 each and get the rest of us banned.

Not Luton! Thank God
I don't think we need to worry. If you have a look at February 2010's account we got £500 from Amazon (presumably from Xmas). Even with prizes and give-aways that more than enough to cover a few months with income lower.

Also, in general terms higher visitors will mean higher referal income which should cancel out any higher hosting charges.

I know this subject has been talked about before (can't be bothered to search for the said thread/s) but there are many things against having a fee paying forum, it's just not as simple as you may think.
That said it is a great gesture seeing people say they would be prepared to pay for NSC............so PM me and i will give you my bank details and you can deposit money into there :lolol:

I think we're ok for now - as others have pointed out - there's a few quid in the bank.

However, the current trend is....

- Revenue rising nicely.
- Costs (hosting fees) rising even quicker

...and this month we made a small loss. I will get the next hosting bill in a week or so and I think it will point to posting a bigger loss - maybe £100 or so - for November. This clearly represents an accelerating trend that I want to put a stop to ASAP.

There are a few things that will be done in the next week or so - upgrade vBulletin to the latest version and then implement a technical resource caching thingummy (memcached for those interested) which could help reduce resource usage. I'll analyse usage for a while and, if we're still racking up significant hosting bills I will look to change hosts once again for something cheaper. As ever, getting the performance/cost balance right is proving difficult.

If the Albion could start being a bit shitter again that would help too, as a lot of people would sod off again.

You put money in my bank account....you get to keep the wife and the other 3 :lolol::lolol:

Seems fair. Is it OK just to "borrow" them at weekends? Don't need to keep them!

Please post your account details.
