Czech Republic captain Pavel Nedved has retired from international football to focus on his club career at Juventus.

The 32-year-old European footballer of the year has been suffering from a persistent knee injury and does not believe he can play for both teams.

The midfielder won 83 caps and scored 17 goals in a decade with the side.

It's a shame that a great player like Pavel never got a chance to play in the World Cup. I thought that he should've stuck around and helped this strong and exciting Czech side qualify for Germany 2006 on the back of a successful Euro 2004 campaign.

Saw him play in Alveiro in Euro 2004 for the Czech Republic v Holland. What you couldn't see from the TV (I watched it again afterwards), was how much Nedved was running the show. The Dutch couldn't get near him. He'd just sit halfway between the halfway line and the penalty area and spray passes around all evening. he was awesome.

A perfect display apart from his horrendous dive to get Robben(?) sent off.

Tosser. How I laughed when he got injured in the Euro 2004 semi.

Would also have laughed when he got booked in the CL Semi against Real if Juve's opponents in the Final hadn't been the merda rossonera.

He is a great, great player - one of the few truly two footed players out there. The Czechs will miss him a lot:clap:
