His performance at the Brits and particularly 'A Town Called Malice' was just stunning.

A true music legend

I thought Well'ard's performance was poor. He never likes playing Jam stuff at the best of times but obviously couldn't get out of it on this occasion with the Lifetime award. 'From the Floorboards Up' was about his best of that set. Sure he was chuffed to have Buckler and Foxton projected on the wall behind.

Stunning?

Middle-aged bloke on stage singing and playing guitar.

Stunning?

I wasn't stunned.

A chap who used to play in one of my pubs taught Paul Weller to play the guitar after PW dad asked him at Woking Conservative Club whist playing snooker. Bit of useless trivia.

One of The Jams first gigs was at Woking Ex Services Club and they were booked for every Sunday for a month to play after the bingo.

After 10 mins of first night they had an emergency committee meeting and paid them £100 being the money for 4 weeks and told them to pack up and not come back.

By the time of the 4th week they were no 1 in the charts.

Au contraire LB. It was absolutely stunning, and reminded me of how damned good the Jam were then , and PW occaisonally is now.

I tihnk Weller is great, his set last night was definitely the higlight of an otherwise poor show and as for Prince less said the better.

I have seen weller a few times live and each time he has played Jam tracks so I'm sure he doesn't have too much of a problem playing them. Highlight being a solo accoustic performance of thats entertainment at the Albert hall.

Are all you "Weller is a legend" fans, children of the mid to late seventies maybe?

Anyone who can pen the kind of insightful, heartfelt social commentary that he did as a teenager deserves 'legend' status, no matter where his career went after that. At 19 I could barely wipe my own arse and he was there writing about lonely housewives hanging their old love letters out to dry.

Heard an interview with Rick Buckler yesterday. Both he and Brooce have made many attempts to keep in touch with Weller but have been given the cold shoulder for TWENTY TWO YEARS!

Great songwriter. Not a nice bloke.

I met him a couple of years ago and he was a really nice bloke, had his picture taken with my wife who was preganant and went out of his way to chat and was generally an all round top bloke especially as he wante dot watch a band and not be hassled by fans.

Agreed. The man's got one of the finest back catalogues in music but has such a precious (arf) view of it - why doesn't he ever play Jam stuff, apart from the other night? Some of his new stuff's not been bad but it's crap compared to his heyday. Head up arse a bit, I think. Still a genius though.

He certainly screwed them over big time, which is why I'm amazed he 'allowed' their images to be portrayed on the big screen behind him last night. Great songwriter in the Jam but a bit cold/ruthless in terms of his career etc.
