Very, very sad. We have had a couple of threads mentioning him on here. I did know him, and said on those that his near-total lack of self-pity was truly humbling.
I began to fear the worst when he did not personally appear at a charity fundraiser for which he was guest of honour three weeks ago. He'd have done anything to be there, so it didn't look good.
A very good player, a great guy and a huge loss, most of all of course to his wife and baby daughter but also his sport.
I'll guarantee one thing - the tributes will be fulsome and wholly genuine. He was a very popular player on the circuit and will be much missed.
I am absolutely gobsmacked to read that, possibly one of the saddest losses in sport I can remember. I saw him make a comeback on tv recently and it was clear his game had not recovered and he still looked ill. I remember thinking how brave he was. He had it all, talent, charisma, looks and fame. I thought he was beating the disease, so this is a massive shock. My heart goes out to his wife and young daughter. 27 is no age to die.
I was really shocked when I read this, thought he'd got the better of it. As others have said, this shows just how little of a fuss he made about it. RIP.
I hope the powers that be at Leeds give him a one minute silence on Saturday. Don't really like them but he was one of our own and deserves that at least.
