I said it.

The point was about the mental illnesses being exacerbated by the alcoholism. The alcoholism bought on by inability to handle to highs and lows and the scrutiny caused by being a top level footballer. I don't know this opinion to be the case so won't defend it to the hilt, but it seems possible in my eyes

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so rude. My incredulity was because what I read was the root cause of the problem was being a successful player. If that analysis is correct all successful footballers would be alcoholic depressives with bizarre behaviour issues. Clearly they aren't . But I apologise if I misunderstood your comment.

Haven’t read the chain, did he kiss her, was it a peck or full on, and was she fine with it?

He gave her a wet kiss on the lips, apparently

So despite it being pointed out that he’s been mostly clean for about 18 months you are happy to publicly state “he’s ****ed”.

Based on what exactly?

Yeah. You're right. He's a picture of health. My mistake.

Gascognie gave a kiss not knowing his judgement was impaired. He has numerous mental health issues is a drinker and totally deviod of any raltional thought process. I think he needs help, Proper help as clearly the help he has got has not worked to date. I am sure he did not do anything in a mallice way. Just a man really struggling to keep a grip on the branch of reality. What good would a jail term serve ?

Sadly, I turn on the football news and there's always a feeling of trepidation with Paul Gascoigne. It's not that he wants to be in the news, more the fact that his on going mental health and alcohol issues are misjudging his actions whether he meant them rightly or wrongly to 'comfort this lady'. And this country will always be fascinated with our Italia '90 hero. I hope things sort themselves out and this is a wake-up call that finally makes him dry out and live a good, healthy life without the intrusion of the media all the time.

I’m intrigued, where do you live?

I live in Surrey! But a close family member was in Newcastle for quite a few years - and closely connected to the sporting scene there. Let's just say there's a strong reputation...

I am glad he was found not guilty , people are too quick to complain to the law these days . NB if it happened in public before several people, you would think someone would be available to support either his story or hers......

Yeh and his initial comment to the police, "I know what this is about I kissed a fat lass" doesn't indicate to me someone who's thinking they could have been being nicked for a number of things

Sadly Gazza is a very ill alcoholic and has been for 25 years. One day we’ll wake to the news that he’s either passed away or has done something really stupid. Despite the love and time of loads of true mates such as Lineker, Mabbutt and Venables, he’s unable to change, unable to kick the habit which is destroying him. Would love to see him beat the booze, but it’s not going to happen. What a waste ... the most talented English footballer in my lifetime.

Surprised he got off, but quite glad in a way. I'm sure the incident may have spoilt the lady's evening, but it wasn't life-changing, and I think if he'd been found guilty because of the way the law works, the penalty would have been excessive; quite life-changing for him.
Whichever way you look at the incident, it was never worth a place on the sex offenders' register.
