Firstly, I think I've mispelt patiencs perhaps, I always get confused.
But anyway...
I find it terribly sad in the modern game that the first reaction following a defeat is 'get some reinforcements in...', but almost immediately it's followed by a thread on the message board 'where do we need someone' which just highlights the ignorance. Moreover, even if we do know where we 'need' someone, very rarely is there an effort to look at our squad and think ' hmm, maybe he could do a job' or ' lets focus on that in training'... all that keeps people happy is endless signings! Lets be honest, we're an average south-coast club with an owner who is no skint flint but no ibrahamovic and we're currently building a ground. I thought everyone acknowledged last season that having too many players disrupted the harmony etc.
What about hard work?
We constantly mock, criticise and fume about the money in the game, the ridiculous wages compared to effort etc etc. And by no means am I saying us not spending so much will stop it, but is it not hideously short sighted to say each in corresponding breaths?
'Wheres the loyalty in football?'
Again, should we not stick with the players, and use hard work rather then replacement to sort out the problems... we boo and taunt players who have left for bigger and *hopefully for them* better things but we're trying to force and encourage the club to replace players we feel are not adequate. IN your job would you not rather be given the chance of training etc before being sacked?
The other reaction is ' it's not working, replace the manager' and the same goes as said above. We're in competition with another 23 clubs in our division alone for signings, and then add in the top league 2 and bottom championship clubs and you have about 40 clubs after these players - whats our differential? We've got to be realistic.
I call for signings sometimes and I'm not trying to portray myself as any kind of saint but I do find it sad that gone are the days when you had your realtively local men playing for your local team and through endevour and hardwork they'd do as well as possible. I'm not saying we revert back to that feudal system... and I know you pay your money etc... but we're part of a football club and an instituition in which we should be proud... but an ever revolving door of managers and players challenges the essence of supporting a club.
Just my reflections on the season so far.
