I'm working in Glasgow this week, and last night was supposed to go with some colleagues and meet a few others for a drink in town.

When the cab arrived, to my horror, it was a Weatherspoons. But far, far worse, it was called 'The Crystal Palace'. I really didn't want to go in the place, the idea filled me with a deep sense of unease. FFS, what's wrong with me, I'm 42 years of age.

Luckily it looked a bit crap in there anyway, and I managed to persuade everyone that a curry and few Cobras was a much better option. When I fessed up to one of them later (a Spurs fans) he admitted he would never have drunk in a pub called The Arsenal.

One of us (Albas) recently confessed to having drunk in there. Needless to say, strict disciplinary measures have been taken.

Are you seriously saying that a pub 500 miles away named The Crystal Palace , which would in itself have no relation to the football team, would bother you that much that you persuaded to get your friends to leave and go somewhere else ?. If this is the case may I respectfully suggest you " get a life ".

Nowt wrong with that. A group of us refused to go in a curry house in Villamoura in 2004 because it merely had the word P*l*c* in it. A man must have principles, even if they make him appear to be but a boy!

Whatever the supreme irony contained above, I've invited it on myself with the thread title, so no grumbles here.

I have to say, shit south London football clubs aside, generally in life a curry and Cobra is ALWAYS the better option.

I have evidence to suggest that a certain Albion fan and poster on here is in said establishment right now...

Who is it? Name and shame. Unless they have to work there, in which case a pay rise seems fair.

The Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida serves up delightful buffet style meals that can be enjoyed in the company of Winnie the Pooh and his chums.

I have indulged many times, entirely guilt free.

OK. Time for a good old NSC tangent.

On the matter of principles, I give you Focus DIY. I'm betting just about every NSC user won't go into a Focus DIY but probably also looks the other way when passing one and probably shouts at the TV when any ads are on too. My daughter certainly does all of the above and she wasn't even born when Archer was doing his thing.

I used to do a leader round, and conviently "miss placed" the Focus DIY leaflets. Violently. While shouting.

Yes, all week. What do you make of these best-of-fives?

They're exciting and the way forward for snooker. Barry Hearn really loves the sport and will look after it. Surprised there haven't been many shocks. I've got a fiver each-way on Ricky Walden (40/1) but got a tough match tonight against Neil Robertson.

It's not as if the shambolic excuse for a football team in south London are the real Crystal Palace.

When I lived in Birmingham, I was a regular visitor to the Crystal Palace in Sutton Park - the site of a fine permanent funfair (and the winter quarters of the famous Collins Family travelling fair). They also had a very good miniature railway, which regularly exchanged rolling stock with the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch line.

And I've only boycotted the Palace Pier since they took the disgraceful decision to rename it "Brighton" Pier.
