When did that run? I lived in Moulsecoomb in the 60s and 70s but have no recollection of such a bus - it would have been handy to get to Varndean

Certainly early 70's. I used to work in East Croydon (spit) and would get the 15 over from Coldean to preston park station and back.

Can't sleep tonight after driving down, so I will be anorak-ish on these buses.
The 13 (Southdown) used to run from Brighton to Moulsecoomb, then through Coldean to Patcham old village.
The 13B used to run at peak times Brighton-Moulsecoomb to Coldean only. Red Brighton Hove & District buses were never seen crawling up Coldean lane
The 15 & 15B (Brighton, Hove & District) used to run from Portslade then up the Lomdon Road to Patcham old village then up the Ladies Mile Road and finoshed at the top (before Patcham Fawcett was built).
(And the 5 & 5B wnet different ways to the end of the Mackie Estate - and came back the way they went, unlike now)
All through the 60's loads used to come to Varndean from Coldean on the 13 and then changed to the 46 up Braybon.
It all seemed to go pear-shaped when I first went oop North, although my world had already expanded beyond the Moulsecoomb-Patcham corridor, and I had found the bright lights of town served by the 5, so was no longer expert in the 13/15 saga.. The 15 seemed to eat the 13, and now the 5 series venture off their old routes.
Right - all sleepy after that? Enjoy our walk!

So, the 15 didn't go into Moulsecoomb then?

I don't ever remember a 13 though, when did that stop running?

We didn't have a car so a bus that would have taken me the hill into Hollingbury would have been fantastic.

(This, quite unexpectedly, has been a really interesting thread)

We are in the same situation, Patcham to the Amex, but how to get there?

We have considered trying to catch the ‘S’ bus, but have concerns that the 3 timetabled will be crammed by the time they get to Patcham.

So we will go for the Mill Hill Park-and-Ride for today, first time in the years we have been season ticket holders that we will use the facility.

When things settle down, and when we get feedback on how full the buses are, then we might try the ‘S’ bus.

If you can get to the 5b (Wilmington pub) some of them go over the hill to the Uni. From Asda you also have the 24 which will take you to the bottom of Coldean Lane.

In regards to the old 13/15 they didn't actually go through Moulsecoomb but served it via the Lewes Road.

The 15 ended a few years before the 13, which became a 25A and has since become the no 24.

Just to give this closure. Walked back 'briskly' from Falmer, 50 minutes to Mackie Avenue bowling green. Wouldn't fancy it in the dark though - too much to trip over!
Didn't see a No.13 bus.

Update -
journey to - Mill road P&R - 20min walk from Warmdene Road to Mill road, then 15 min walk "UP" Mill road - as the cars fill up, so the bus stop moves up the hill defies logic to walk for 35 mins AWAY from the ground - so probalbaly not that route again - spend that time walking to Ditchling Rd

journey back - Train to london Rd & bus to Patcham - 45 mins gound to home OK

By the way - the ground is f**king ACE ! will take at least 4 games before it dosen't ffeel like an away game

I hope that there will be more "specials" laid on by the bus company for match days - especially midweek & winter

I went in the Hikers before the game with my son after waking down Makay Avenue through the wood to the A27 Bridge then down Coldean Lane.
The Pub was very good had a few pints of carling and srongbow whilst the son had a burger from the van and some chips from the bar which was also serving lots of bar meals like scampi ,curry ,pies ect all in all a good experence saw lot's of old Brighton Face's then caught the Pub Minibus for £1 to the UNI Tunnel to the railway station at 2PM
By the way the Donnie fans turned up after the bouncers who didn't seem that clued up as one of them asked me what time the match started!
I had a good look around the ground after while the son had a look in the club shop then we stepped straight on to a half full S route bus and got off at carden Avenue then cut across Ool Boat Corner were Fawcett used to be back into Patcham allin all a good day.
