Read the spec on the car, titanium shell, 5" glass, rocket launchers, drives on flat tyres etc, but think it should look a bit more flasher than it does.

Has nobody pointed out to the BBC that that is in fact not a car 'struggling to do a three point turn' but in fact what we mortals like to call a 'five point turn'?

When learning to drive these days it is referred to as 'a turn in the road', apparently if it's safe you can have as many goes as you like!

1) Towards the near kerb (from camera point of view)
2) Reversed to the other ending up spanning the road
3) Forward to point in the other direction
4) Reversed to be in position for when Obama came out.

He actually did a three point turn, plus reversed to be in position for collecting his passenger.

He had a big car, there were the press and various other people on pavements and moving around, so he did it slowly.

Clearly not a struggle.

Thank you Acker. I thought I must be the only one who thought it was done really well considering the size and weight of the car and that he had the world's press lined up to watch.

I'm hoping to 'park the beast' later on tonight. If I've not had too much to drink.

Like to see him get that around the bends on the way out of the Marina multistorey

Oh it certainly wasn't a struggle, I agree with that. He did very well.

Sorry to be picky though (I'm very bored at work) but I've watched it again and it's definitely a five point turn.

1) Pulls towards the near-side (on the left hand side out of shot)
2) Reverses to the far side
3) Pulls towards the near-side
4) Reverses to the far side
5) Pulls away

Then subsequently reverses into position.

When I did my driving test (about 7/8 years ago) you were supposed to do a three point turn, although I think you only got a few minors if it went wrong and turned into a five point. However that was assuming that the car you did the test in had power steering; if it didn't, you were allowed a five point turn. Luckily my car didn't, and that made it a hell of a lot easier!

It always has been like that. I seem to remember when I did my test about 26 years ago, it was called something like "performing a turn on the road using forward and backward gears". I don't think it has ever been called a 3 point turn officially.
