IOC sold the global rights to Discovery and every nation essentially gets two feeds from them of stuff, so the BBC (and every other broadcaster basically) is extremely hamstrung in what they can do.

That explains a lot!

For those unaware, there is usually some extra stuff on Eurosport (as Discovery own them) but it often duplicates the BBC

It will be a real shame if the Triathlon ends up becoming a Duathlon. But it probably helps our competitors? What are they thinking to do with the marathon swim?

Unbelievably stupid of the French to choose to do the Triathlon using the Seine when they must have known the risks. Surely there must be a suitable body of water not too far from Paris that could have been used. They seem more obsessed with marketing central Paris than competitor safety.

Ref: the tv coverage, I’m hopeful that the BBC have earmarked the lion’s share of their budget for the Track and Field.

Whilst I appreciate that’s not great for those wanting to immerse themselves in the ‘week one’ sports, the Olympics for me is all about the stuff that happens the stadium.

You will have needed to have performed inside the qualifying time for your chosen sport first.

You can’t just rock up in Paris with your trainers and expect to get a go, sadly.

Anyone complaining about the BBC coverage, I have really enjoyed the wrap up show of highlights of the days events on Eurosport. 'Bonsoir Paris', hosted by Laura Woods, it's on about 9-9:30 each evening and also interesting they've got a reporter (Iwan Thomas) at GB House, where it essentially feels like a nightclub each night, you can tell why they need all those condoms given out.

As per hovercraft. You buckled in for your "flight" on a hovercraft.
Will it be renamed windflying?

I was watching it earlier and couldn't see the skill involved, probably because there appeared to be a not very athletic Lithuanian chap "taxiing" pre flight.
I figured if you had all the good kit and had the strength to ensure the course you'd probably become Olympic champion easily.

IMO Orie CLEARLY won 2 out of three rounds.

Started to go mainstream 4 or 5 years ago as far as i can tell. Surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing, the other one where you hang on to a hybrid wing/sail thing...even sailing. All 'flying' on hydrofoils. Get used to it, it's definitely the future! Wouldn't be surprised to see kayaks zipping along above the rapids soon.

I haven't tried (sure there will be some here that have) but I am told it's generally more difficult, as well as faster.
