Americans are complete idiots when it comes to kids and guns.

My good friends 16 year old grandson had been exposed to guns from an early age and had already inherited a collection of hunting rifles. He asked his mum to get him a handgun, which she did. He was showing off to his girlfriend but had forgotten he had left one "up the spout". Blew his head off in front of her.

Such a sad, tragic end to the life of a lovely lad.

But they will never learn. These kinds of killings won't ever stop unless the penny drops that the answer to every question is not "buy a gun". But with Trump seemingly headed back to the White House, things are only likely to get much, much worse.

This reminds me of a guy I met in a bar when I was backpacking around the US when a student. He had a limp and scarring around the thigh and knee. He was cleaning a loaded hand gun……

Very sad case, crazy that anyone gives free access to a gun, to any teenager. Crazy that isn't illegal itself. Crazy to lock up a kid for the rest of his days for an act committed at age 15, without any hope. I know some won't agree with me on the last point.

In the 80s I used to work with a feller who had several guns which he used to shoot at competitions and on ranges. He was a very capable, competent and safety conscious owner. One evening he was cleaning his guns in a B&B where he was staying and he put a round through the floor into the room below.

The second amendment was put into the constitution in 1791, when there were only really single-shot muzzle-loaders. To apply it to 21st century multi-shot magazine-fed weapons is absurd. They should (but won’t) introduce a licensing system for anything more than a manually loaded, 3-round shotgun, similar to what we have.

What they had in mind was that the citizens should have the ability to resist an oppressive Government.
They should have access to all the conventional weapons the USAF has, if they really want to be able to defend themselves against USAF. As that is clearly insane, the amendment needs amending.

Sorry, but he quite obviously is not responsible at age 15. The parents knew this.
Within 5 minutes of being bought a gun, this little shit went out and deliberately caused as much carnage as he could.

He is now locked up for the rest of his life Good.

The parents are equally to blame because, basically, if they thought their son had fantasies of killing people, then the worst thing they could have done is buy the gun and ammunition for this little monster.
So in a way they are just as responsible for this tragedy as he is.

Will it change anything in America because of this case? No, probably not.

I am fully behind the parents being jailed, it's the whole life term, with no opportunity for parole, for a mentally troubled 15 year old that doesn't sit right with me.

To be fair, the US court in this case did not accept the "mental health" card played by the murderer. They banged him up for life without parole (equivalent to our "whole life tariff"). Compare and contrast to the killer of the two young kids and school caretaker in Nottingham who got himself a cushy hospital order (at over 6 times the annual cost of banging him up in a Cat A for murder)

I agree, he is not responsible at age 15, yet was tried as an adult and given a life sentence with no parole.
It does not seem just to hold a 65 year old man in prison for something he did in a state of depression when he was 15, his frontal cortex was underdeveloped, and was being raised by careless parents, no matter how he has conducted himself in the intervening 50 years.
I believe almost everyone is redeemable, especially children.

Semi automatic handgun, less power than a rifle, he injured 7 others. He also had two more magazines of 15 rounds on him and rounds in the gun when he handed it over to the officer that confronted him.

Well I think Caleb is a lovely chap if that helps. I do actually think Caleb is great so he could have a lot worse hero's!
