I think this was a very unsafe conviction right from the start as clearly one person would not be able to mastermind such an atrocity. As usual huge whinge from across the Atlantic where they ignore half the things they have done wrong, I suspect this person was a scapegoat to please the Yanks.

If, as it appears, this person is close to the end of his life he should be freed and left in peace.

One final issue, whoever did do it also put PANAM out of business and cost a lot of jobs.

Meopham, Kent.
Seems to me that he should be flown home in a fighter jet, and have the pilot whack the old ejector seat and bail out over the Atlantic. Would seem like natural justice to me.

Disagree as I suspect if it were possible to trace the whole crime back to the source he now appears be en vogue in the Western world.

Whether he should have been let out or not I'm unsure. What I'm f***ing damn sure of is that they shouldn't have let the (unt fly home on a passenger flight!!!!!!

...err, don't think they did, as far as I could make out from the news coverage he flew home on the President's jet.

I think two issues that should have remained seperate have been mixed up.

The first issue is that Megrahi is temanilly ill. The second issue being that it looked strongly possible that he would have won his appeal and been cleared of the Lockerbie bombing.

Megrahi, I believe has probably been released to spare the Scottish government having the embaressment of Megrahi's conviction being overturned on appeal. It is an absolute shame that the appeal process has been stopped because it seems to me that there is something we are simply not being told.

I hope I'm wrong.

I'm one of the relatives that wanted him to rot in jail... bastard.

Do you think his conviction was safe?
As I heard one of the relatives (of I think one of the people killed on ground) today on the radio. He said he thought the conviction was unsafe and that he probably did not do it.

Megrahi's conviction was based on very tenuous evidence, and like others on here believe that it would have been turned over on appeal.

The United States have been against Libya ever since the conflict there is the 1980s, when the Libyan Government took control over the oil concessions back... This has been what it's all about OIL; no doubt the US State Department had been pinning the bombing on a Libyan ever since.

Of course, it also had nothing to do with the CIA allowing drug trafficking from a Syrian drugs gang on to Pan-Am flights...

I reckon they got ONE of the right people, maybe a sacrificail lamb on the alter of international politics.

He's convicted so should be left to rot imo. Or traded for the killer of yvonne fletcher.

Now if it had been a Yank mass murder who slaughtered 100's of Muslims he would be left to rot.
