40,000. They can't even fill Shithurst, let alone build a new stadium and fill it. :lolol: :lolol:

To be fair, do you think we, or any other team in the land would fill Selhurst?

Surely, as with the amex, the best idea, given their lowish attendance figures compared to capacity, is to start off with a capacity, near enough to what gate they have already been achieving at selhurst. This isn't a scathing attack, for any palace fans on here, either. It's just a way Palace can be sure of sell outs, rather than giving the impression they can only fill half of their stadium.

As much as I have a seething hatred for palace, it's worth remembering how hard we fought for a new stadium, with the difference being that we were homeless.

If they'd just increment their capacity once gates were proven to sell that much.

Alas, though, I fear that 40,000 might be a tad optimistic.

For the sake of their fans, I have nothing but support for their stadium move. They need a new stadium, badly. However, I feel sorry for the majority of fans. I'm not sure, in their right mind, that they would increase the capacity by that much in the first season, of course, I could be mistaken!

I don't think so. If you build it, they will come. The Amex is proof of that. But 40,000 is wildly optimistic. They should be aiming for 25,000, with the option to extend if necessary.

Yes your right about "if they build it,they will come" but as Hull, coventry and others have found out withing 2 or 3 seasons of stagnating (at best) in the same division, the crowd start to drop.

As a Palace fan I would prefure to re-develop selhurst, and with the crowds we are getting at the moment we could do one side at a time, even though I think the two ends are OK as they are.

From what I have read it was going to be 25,000 to start with the capacity rising if required.

That is realistic, and I think we proved the "build it and they will come" thing.

Palace have an enormous catchment area with more fake prem supporters than we ever had, convert some of these with realistic ticket pricing, a shiny new stadium and decent football and they could become massively supported.

that's what I'm getting at Commander. Build it and they will come only works up to a point, as you said, 40k is wildly optimistic, it only worked for us because we had x many committed fans from the goldstone who couldn't go to withers of gillingham, and now can go. Not to mention the amex's use as a conferencing facility which would surely promote it. 40k from 15k is a bit much.

Sorry Panda but that's just not true, apart from the first couple of seasons you could get a ticket to almost any game at Withers. People just couldn't be arsed to go and sit in the rain, and I don't blame them.

MM, well ok then. I still don't believe it's a good idea to shift from 15k to 40k :lolol:

Neither do I, 25k with room to build extra and I believe they will become hugely supported, unless they get relegated which would be nice.

Haven't we had years of that lot telling us how great their support is and we're nothing compared to them? 4 or 5 years ago we'd have been delighted with a ground similar to Selhurst and we would have had more than 12000 going there. Using Selhurst as an excuse for poor attendance is just that-a poor excuse. What would they have done after 12 years at Withdean? I hope they're stuck there for decades, see their fan base dwindle and struggle indefinitely. After all the years of abuse from those tossers, it is the least I can hope for.

Surely "significant regeneration of the area surrounding" would involve high explosives and a scorched earth policy? Some barren, charred, post-apocalypic landscape seems about right!

So that's what they were up to last year?

The KC Stadium is owned by the city council as they provided the funding (part of the windfall from selling off their share in KCOM (Kingston Communications)). It also hosts Hull FC the rugby league team. It was built to allow expansion to 32,000. The plans for the new stadium at Crystal Palace are somewhat misleading as I was led to believe this will be sold to allow MK Dons to relocate back to London whilst Palace will use the adjacent athletics track to play their home games.
