A little bit disrespectful it seems to me,... both by Worthing, and by Palace,....... its a bit like us playing a game up at Dulwich Hamlet or something similar.

Bulls**t

Albion let Worthing down by not sticking to their word regarding playing a friendly against them (see my earlier post on this thread) not the other way round. Well within their right to negotiate with whoever they like for a friendly if so, and if Palace were the "biggest" (in terms of placing and being able promote it as a clash with a prem league team) side available then they're well within their right to be hosting them.

As I said before, only people to blame for Palace encroaching on a part of the county that could be considered a Seagull's supporting town is Albion

And for what it's worth I'd love it if we played Dulwich. Great bunch of fans from all the times I've played against and socialised with them playing for Worthing supporters team and fully deserved their promotion last season!

Damn right. And if Vatican whatever's post seems to suggest that Worthing picked Palace to piss off the Albion because the Albion pissed them off. Is that true because it's damn disresepctful to Worthing fans who by and large have more than a soft spot for Brighton.

"Encroaching" - got to take him to task over that. Worthing will never ever ever be a Palace supporting town. There might be one or two spack-flids living in God's own country that support that scum but Worthing is, was and always will be true blue. I might pop down there just for the giggle and to flick Vs at the dribbling protozoa that follow Palace.

I think in fairness, Worthing FC ought to let us know if full kit wanker will be attending. I need to know whether it's safe to bring my kids or not.

Never suggested that, and wouldn't dream of it! Worthing's boss was in talks with a number of clubs after the Albion pulled out and Palace said yes. If they were the club that Worthing felt might bring in the biggest crowd (which lets face it, is what games against league teams are for Non-League sides at Ryman level) then they are well within their right to organise it. Simple as. I don't like that my other side will play Palace, but I don't see it as disrespectful to be doing so either.

Worthing have always had good links with Albion - mainly through the reserves playing at Woodside for many years - and I doubt that will change just because Palace will play there in pre-season this year. Would be very petty if so.

Well, whatever the reasons I can see there being trouble at the game and for that alone I won't be taking my kids and in all honesty don't trust myself not to get in a slanging match or worse with Palace fans. I'm not sure it's going to attract many neutrals - just Sussex based Palace fans. It's likely even to put off one or two Worthing fans I would have thought. Worthing will also have to pay for any police inside Woodside Road too and that's not cheap.

All in all, it's a very odd game to arrange.

Not a chance. Wear that in Worthing and you'd get lynched. I can't take the credit for the photo. No idea where it was but it was taken on the morning of the play-off final last month (the London Transport logo on the bus stop is a clue to roughly where). Please note this Full Kit Wanker also has 2 bags - one for the shinpads, map of London, trainspotters book and another for his jam sandwiches and wagon wheel. I can't help but smile whenever I see that photo.

And say what you like about Worthing but you can't deny it's proper Albion country.

The Dev Squad friendly fixtures havent been announced yet (our DS is basically the same sort of team they will be sending down). For all we know we do have a game organised with Worthing (and Lewes too come to think of it) organised.

I notice there's a few snipes against The Albion from WFC officials on the Worthing Forum. Old Morty Hollis supposedly shook hands with Gus re a pre season friendly. The friendlies would only been arranged over the last month or so and announced - When was it? Last Week? In fairness to Gus, he's had rather a lot on his plate recently, rather than remembering to honour a handshake with Morty Hollis. Besides, if Gus had no intention of being at Brighton, he could have promised anything & not given a shit.

It should also be noted: Albion Reserves were playing at Woodside Road for years. In return, WFC always used to get the opening pre season friendly against The Albion. That arrangement came to an end when a WFC 'director' gave Brighton Reserves notice to quit Woodside Road. Why? So he could accommodate Horsham FC who at the time were homeless after selling Queen Street. ( What sort of Football Club would sell their ground without having anywhere else to play?!)

Old Morty expected this arrangement to be at least two years, but Horsham quit after just one season. It would appear, somebody at WFC didn't make sure the 'I's' were dotted and 'T's' crossed in the contract.

The roots of WFC losing the Albion friendly go back to one individual at WFC making some very bad choices which have probably affected the finances of the club badly. The digs at The Albion are misguided.

I'm glad we've stepped in to help out Worthing.
A bit tin pot to let them down tbh.

Didn't your lot cancel a friendly last season on literally the day before?

And don't lecture us about helping Worthing out. I've been to more Worthing v Brighton friendlies than I care to remember. (Last year it pissed down. My God it pissed down.) As others have alluded it might be down to a whole host of reasons and I'm sure there will be others in the future.

Yuck. The thought of the town that I grew up in full of Palace turns my stomach.
