After literally years of using Windows on laptops for work and leisure I got a new job nearly 2 years ago and they sent me a company laptop which was a Macbook. A couple of weeks ago it had a small issue and needed to go to the Apple Store to be repaired and my 'loan' machine has been back to Windows.

I've just had the call that my Macbook Air is ready to be collected and I am DELIGHTED. They are SO much better than Windows PCs IMEO*. I'm a full Macbook convert / evangelist.

But what does NSC think? Could this be as divisive as the Fab Out polls?

I guess it really depends on usage.

For high end video editing or CAD use for example then it's Apple imho, however for the email and porn browsing punter then a Mac is a sledgehammer to crush a walnut.

Doesn’t it depend on what you’re using it for?
You see, I used to think that, but no. Macs - one touch of a button and they're on and READY. No five hours to boot up. And the keyboard shortcuts are better when you get used to them. And the display's better. And there's no frigging S Mode.

for gaming or corporate world Windows wins. for light home use or some specialism like music, graphic, maybe web design, Mac. general office apps are the same either way, but intergration to systems is better in MS world.

funny thing is the clear advantages of Mac have gone, aside a few where s/w isn't on MS (is there any?). at same time the integration has gotten better so its less of a ball ache to be on Mac in the office. really down to the cost of machine and if you want/need the higher res Macs offer.

Once you've had Mac, you never go back.
I've had several Macs, and now my work has deigned that I should have a PC. So I haven't gone back to a PC, it's more gone forward. Have to say, didn't really notice any difference. Then again, I'm a techno-idiot so there are all sorts of features and subtleties that go straight over my head.

I was a convert in 2000 from years of PCs to Macs and haven't looked back. I recently had to get Word for a job and even that takes some getting used to from Pages (the Mac equivalent).

Sure Macs are expensive, but they are really good. It would take a LOT to get me to go back to proper Windows/Office and all that gubbins now.

This will mainly be down to the hard drive the windows install is on.

I got a new PC last year and windows is on an M.2 Nvme SSD and loads extremely fast.

It's also light years ahead of what a Mac could do for gaming and streaming which I do occasionally.

The display is down to the individual laptop, it's unlikely to be better than a high end laptop which is what you should be comparing it with given the price point.

I was windows exclusively for years (and Linux) - I used to work for Microsoft with access to the windows source and used to make private builds and know it inside and out - about 4 years ago I finally got fed up of windows being slow and my fans constantly spinning so I got a MacBook and haven’t looked back.

Some times for work I have to use a windows machine and I miss my MacBook, I won’t ever go back - especially with nonsense like the start menu showing adverts instead of installer apps.

(I never play games other than 8ball pool ok my phone so don’t need gaming, just want a desktop that works when I want it to)

As an IT infrastructure person I hate Apple. Really, why can't they keep to industry standards ? My hate started 30+ years ago when you had to get a network to carry Appletalk to get them working on a network. Glad they've been forced to use USB-C for charging.

At my last company before retirement, we gave everyone in Tech (several thousand worldwide) a choice of MacBook Pro, Dell Latitude Workstation Windows or Dell Linux. Around 66% chose Macs, 33% Windows (mainly in places like India) and around and around 1% Linux, almost all in cloud engineering / dev-ops, which was the department I was running. I stuck to Apple, as I've used their machines at home and work since the very first Macs and know them inside out. I do also have a gaming PC for Flight Simulator though...
