Lewes do NOT have a fit goalkeeper, talk is that an outfield player will be between the sticks tonight... Could be a goal feast.

What's going on:-

From Marina (Lewes FC's Press Officer) on Rook Squawk:-

I don't want to go over what has been posted here already regarding the goalkeeping situation at the club. Howard Griggs has as usual reported very accurately in today's Argus what the situation is and Liam has clarified what has been going on behind the scenes with the FA and Conference. John Moules has been fantastic on our behalf but the FA's response, considering that this is a non professional competition is very disappointing. Our thanks must also go to West Ham who have been very helpful in offering David Blackmore back to us.

We have been very unlucky in the timing of all this; Jack Stern's scholarship is under threat if he plays for the first team and we obviously don't want this to happen. Aaron is not recovered from his dislocated shoulder and is just not fit to play. Along with David Blackmore, Jack and Aaron are the three goalkeepers that we have currently signed to the club. Very few teams, even in the Premiership, would have more than this. The FA will not allow us to field any player not registered before our last meeting with Oxford. We are therefore stuck. It is not a matter of inefficiency, it is just bad luck and bad timing pure and simple.

As yet SK has not decided who will play in goal tonight. I have offered as I would probably fill it quite well after the amount I have eaten over Christmas! I am awaiting the call....

If you are coming along tonight, please give the boys the loudest and best support you can.

Marina.

And from Liam on Rook Squawk:-

"An update regarding the goalkeeper situation. It looks like we are going to have to put an outfield player in goal. David Blackmore signed his pro contract last Friday, thus changing his status (he was previously a trainee) This is the ONLY reason why he cannot play tonight. He is available and willing to do so, and West Ham are happy to let him play. However the FA are refusing to allow it, despite the fact that he is still registered as a Lewes player and of course played in the first game (and would have played in the replay had it not been fogged off) We are not even asking for a special dispensation to bring in another keeper, and yet the FA are refusing to budge, despite all the efforts of the Conference officials, who were prepared to give us a special dispensation to bring in someone else for last Saturday if we needed to, in line with the Premier League allowing Kiraly to go to Villa, and I have no doubt that the Football have also on occasion allowed common sense to prevail. Sadly this seems to be in very short supply at the FA. Maybe you would like to let them know over the next few days how disgusted you are with them."

Lewes put in a really good display tonight, and never looked outclassed. They were only beaten by a penalty, and had a few half chances towards the end.

If you knew nothing about UK football, you'd have been hard-pushed to say which the supposedly 'big' and 'small' teams were...

As a former Lewesian now living in Oxfordshire, I felt very proud to be there tonight.

WELL DONE THE ROOKS...!
