An Oxford United fan has been jailed for taking a smoke grenade to a game.

Carl Wells, 34, of Cherwell Road, Berinsfield, Oxfordshire, was sentenced to two months in prison at Plymouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

He was charged with possession of a Hanger 18 smoke grenade "during a designated sporting event in an area of a designated sport ground".

It happened at the Plymouth Argyle v Oxford Utd match at Home Park, Plymouth, on 21 April.

Wells was also banned from attending football matches for six years.

Ridiculous punishment, both the jail sentence and the 6 year ban. This is the type of smoke grenade he used. A bit of smoke and it was all over in less than 2 minutes.

Blinking flip, didn't even know it was an offence! Assumed it would be against the ground regs but 2 months bird and a 6 year banning order for that?? Must be more to it or did someone nick the judge's pasty which put him in a bad mood?

The punishment does seem a tad harsh and doesn't really match the crime.

However, there could still be a ray of sunshine in all of this; Carl Wells could turn out to be that inept twunt "Dreaming Spires".

I went to a game in Czech republic last Saturday , there were flares in the crowd , 2 smoke bomb's thrown on the pitch , 3 fire crackers let off by the toilets with flames and 2 flares let off by the away coaches outside , no problems , they had guy's there in protective clothing with a shovel who cleared them up and put them in a metal container , no arrests , the police just looked on .

And that was an under 11's game :lolol:

No Brno first team , i have photos but not sure how to download them
